BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked the followers of both ruling and the opposition parties to pray for peace and unity ahead of the forthcoming fresh presidential election slated for June 23, 2020.
Nankhumwa, who is held in high esteem owing to his clean politics, says the forthcoming election will lead to chaos if Malawians do not join hands in prayers.
“The forthcoming elections shall be a recipe for chaos, confusion and instability if we don’t humble ourselves kneel down and pray for a peaceful and credible election,” wrote Nankhumwa on social media while referring party followers to 2 Chronicles 7 verse 14 which states “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
He added: “It doesn’t matter whether you are in Government or opposition. Let’s join hands and pray for our Mother Malawi. Remember we have one home we call it Malawi. And God Must heal our land Oh God bless our land of Malawi. Keep it a land of peace.”
Recently, Nankhumwa also attracted much applause from the public when he asked the DPP supporters to be humble and forgive one another during DPP and United Democratic Front (UDF) mega rally that was held at Njamba weeks ago.
“King Solomon had everything at his disposal such as wealth and wisdom but he still asked God to intervene in all areas of his life. As a party, let us emulate this gesture throughout the campaign period.
“Do not keep grudges, and above all forgive one another,” said Nankhumwa.
Malawians will go to polls on June 23, 2020 following the nullification of the May 2019 election by the Constitutional Court citing widespread irregularities.
