LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Government says Monday February 3, 2020, the day which the Constitutional Court in Lilongwe has settled for the pronouncement of presidential election case, will not be a holiday and so all public officers should report for duties as usual.
Speaking in response to the appeal made by Livingstonia and Nkhoma Synods of CCAP, Minister of Civic Education and Information Technology, Mark Bottomani said the Malawi Defense Force (MDF) and the Malawi Police Service have jointly put in place tight security measures to ensure that people go to work and do business in peace.
“As government, we have not discussed anything to that effect because we know that there will always be security. Malawi Defense Force and the Police will provide enough security on the day of judgment and afterwards so Malawians should not panic; they will go work and do their business without any forms of violence,” said Bottomani.
Apparently, Nkhoma and Livingstonia Synods of CCAP, have made an appeal to the government that on Monday next week, all working Malawians should be on holiday so they can listen to the pronouncement of the judgment on their radios while at home.
On Tuesday this week, the Registrar of the High Court of Malawi, Agness Patemba, released a statement that Justices Hiley Potani, Ledson Kapindu, Dingiswayo Madise, Mike Tembo and Ivy Kamanga will on Monday February 3, 2020, pronounce the judgment of the high profile presidential election case in which Dr Saulos Chilima and Dr Lazarus Chakwera are disputing the results of the May 21 polls.
