NYNCC pushes for children involvement in climate change fight

Nyasulu: We want children be part of the campaign fight against effects of climate change with good policies and financing

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The National Youth Network on Climate Change (NYNCC) is still emphasizing the need for children be part of decision making in climate change fight campaign.

NYNCC National Coordinator Dominic Nyasalu told The Maravi Post that children are also vulnerable of effects of climate change hence their inclusion in policy decision and financing.

Nyasaulu observes that Children are agents of change towards addressing effects of climate change.

He was speaking during the sidelines of children and youth reflection workshop on just ended COP27 and beyond this week in the capital Lilongwe.

“We have reflected on how youth and children cycling caravan for climate justice achieved the agenda which revealed that children are agents of change.

“Children as agents of chang need support including policies and financing in their already activities that are engaged into including tree planting exercise,” says Nyasulu.

Echoing on the same, Association of Environmental Journalists (AEJ) President Mathews Malata who was part of COP 27 sidelines meetings appealed to authorities to fully engage media on children and young people information dissemination.

Malata observes that there is too much politics on COPs that need children and young be involved fully for better understanding in their interventions on climate change programs.

With financial support from Save The Children and Sweden Sverige, the reflection meeting attracted climate change youths from groups, high learning institution across the country.

However, Natural Resource Ministry is yet to issue a communique of the outcomes of this year’s Egypt COP27 on Malawi perspective where President Lazarus Chakwera attended.

NYNCC organised three days youth and children cycling’s caravan for Climate Justice and children summit for their voices to be heard ahead of COP27.

Eventually, leaders at COP27 recognized children and young people as integral part of the fight against effects of climate change.
