Opinion: Misdirected Energy

3 Min Read

By now, it is an open secret that our country is clouded with economic and social challenges courtesy of the devil who after successfully sitting on the back of Peter’s brother, has found himself almost choking our dear president.

Which must mean that our good old professor is spending sleepless nights in his once ghost infested plot number one. Trying to come up with solutions to effectively manage Malawi Inc. as our CEO.

Granted, his team of advisors must be a busy lot in trying to suggest solutions to bail us out of the crisis. But as I said the other time, it seems the advisors are not necessarily concerned with our plight but rather have their priorities upside down or just aimed at pleasing their master.

The latest reports of our professor suing Allan Ntata is one such misdirected energy. Given, as a president he should have known that he is supposed to receive scrutiny and a few ‘insults’ here and there.

Interestingly, the 92 billion (577?) saga is awaiting a comprehensive audit report which will give us names of the people responsible for plunder of the public purse. And just about anyone can speculate who may have taken part in the plunder like we have all done.

Which is why our president’s decision to take Ntata to court smacks of ill advice or a deliberate ploy to divert our attention. Why can’t he wait for the outcome of the audit report to prove all that suggest he was part of the syndicate wrong?

What will the courts prove otherwise without that audit if I may ask? What the president is doing seems in resonance with the saying ‘an old woman feels uneasy if dry bones are mentioned’. Because the president would have simply leave the rantings of Ntata to pass without trying to gag his mouth and dangerously of the Nyasatimes.

In any sense, I don’t see wisdom in deciding that of all the problems facing our country our CEO would pick a fight with Allan. I agree that what Allan is doing is a threat to his presidency but that is only if what he says hold some water hence exasperating our dear old professor.

But by now, our president must have known that the presidency requires people with thick skin. Men and women with high emotional intelligence that just don’t cry loud in public when faced with strong willed critics.

If anything, as I suggested the other day, Ntata is a manageable young man who can easily be handled by Muluzi School of politics. Why is my president failing to utilize such a resource? Otherwise, the president is ‘diluting’ the presidency with the precedence he is finding suitable to set.

In all fairness, I am afraid we are likely to face more of such misdirected energy in the next four years
