MaraviPost iReport: Oscar Pistorius is set to be released on parole next week after serving one year of his five-year jail term for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
South Africa department of Correctional Services have confirmed the development.
The parole board met on Thursday morning after asking Reeva Steenkamp’s family to put further submissions before reaching its decision.
Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide last year after saying he shot Reeva through a locked bathroom door because he mistook her for an intruder.
On Friday, the board consulted with Reeva Steenkamp’s family about Pistorius’s possible release.
The lawyer for the Steenkamp family, Tanya Koen, says the family did not make any new representations as they still feel 10 months behind bars for killing a person is not sufficient.
Koen says the Steenkamps also feel this is not long enough
After his release Pistorius will face a further test on November 3 when State appeal South African’s Supreme Court for a murder conviction and a tougher sentence
