Peter Mutharika to see Bingu’s dream through: Nsanje project will be revived

Newly elected President Arthur Peter Mutharika has pledged to revive Malawi’s colorful dream of Nsanje Port in order to enhance economic growth and development

Speaking at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre on Monday at his official inauguration Professor Mutharika said his administration plans to revive some of the projects left by his brother.

We have already planned to revive the Zambezi water way project which if completed shall boost the country’s economic growth,” he said.

According to Professor Mutharika his administration plans to build a new network of first class feeder roads across Malawi in order to open up rural growth centres to main roads and cities.

“My administration has also found it necessary to build more rural growth centres so that we can take development to the people because it is our wish to deliver a people centered economic growth at the rate of 7.5 percent in the next five years,” elaborated Mutharika.

On food security, the president said he will revamp the green belt initiative to make Malawi the breadbasket of Africa.

Mutharika further added that his administration would ensure that every Malawian should afford adequate food, descent houses and a dignified means of earning a living.

“You did not vote for maize in vain, we want to make fertilizer subsidy available to all subsistence maize farmers and we shall continue to grow surplus food to bring down the cost of living,” he said
