DEDZA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police this week arrested two men in Dedza, for the illegal possession of Specimen of Listed Species Contrary to Section 86 (1).
The offense also contravenes Section 110B (b) of the National Parks and Wildlife Amended Act of 2017, and Dealing in Game Trophies Contrary to Section 91 (1), as read with 110B (b) of the National Parks and Wildlife Amended w of 2017.
The suspects have been identified as Zagwa Makina 32, Dalitso Mphangwe aged 38, who were arrested by investigators from Dedza Police Station accompanied by officials from National Parks and Wildlife, following information that some men had been seen offering for sale raw ivory in Mkoma Village in Dedza.
According to the Dedza Police Station publicist Edward Kabango, said the team arrested the suspects and seized two elephant tusks weighing 9.33kgs, valued at MK13,882,400.
Kabango said the two felons will appear before court to answer the charges levelled against them.
Makina and Mphangwe hail from Tsumbi and Salifu Villages, Traditional Authorities (T.A.s) Kasumbu and Lukwa in Dedza and Kasungu districts.
