The last time Malawi Congress Party (MCP) was in Government it was not a free market economy. But now market forces dictate price structures in our beloved Malawi. I was therefore disheartened by Minister of Information and Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako’s escapade on prices reductions in private sector, it’s uncalled for and painting a negative picture to whannabe investors.
MCP has failed to reduce prices of their campaign pledges based on the argument of contractual obligations. So, you tell me these companies do not have contractual obligations they do not have loans and overdrafts? Let us sober up prices are a result of market sizes and viability of a particular project.
Am surprised the MCCI is mute on such Government actions.
The market size of Multichoice South Africa compared to Malawi. It is quite huge which enables low prices based on customer base size . So, stop destroying the viability of the little companies left in this country. Above all, their customer base is already shrinking due to the customers disposable income due to COVID-19
The Ministry of Trade should now curtail the behavior of Ministers who are destroying business. I urge Tonse Ministers to evaluate their actions and not override other Ministries in their efforts to outshine each other. Let business run freely based on market forces.
