A docu-drama series illustrating how water in Southern Africa is sustainably managed according to Southern African Development Community (SADC) Protocol on Shared Watercourses has been produced under the title Bridging Waters.
Produced by the SADC Water Sector with support from the Government of Germany in delegated cooperation with the Governments of UK (UKAid) and Australia (AusAid) managed by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), Bridging Waters highlights the success and local impacts of improved cooperation between the countries that share Southern Africa’s waters
Bridging Waters aims to facilitate increased awareness on the need for Member States in the region to cooperate in the management, development and use of shared rivers and lakes. This is because the SADC region which is home to more than 260 million people has many rivers, lakes and groundwater bodies which are shared by two or more Member States.
Narrated through the lives of those residing along Southern Africa’s majestic rivers and depicting their daily challenges, Bridging Waters connects the local setting with the wider importance of transboundary water management.
Shot in 10 countries over a period of two years, the series delves into the waters of the Zambezi, the Limpopo, the Kunene, the Ruvuma and the Orange-Senqu. The series comprises six short and six long films in form of 12 documentaries with French and Portuguese subtitles. The short films are produced to get quick information and the long versions are foreseen for the general public.
The Bridging Waters series DVDs will be distributed to targeted audiences within the region but can also be accessed from the following links.
