In what is being described as a chilling account of a politically orchestrated scheme, fresh revelations have emerged linking senior government and security officials to a covert operation intended to disrupt peaceful demonstrations in Malawi.
Our investigations have confirmed that on the night of June 25, 2024, at around 11 PM, Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda reportedly dispatched 14 buses to Nsundwe to mobilize youth for an undisclosed operation.
These young men were transported to Biwi where they spent the night, allegedly in preparation for a violent plan to be executed the following morning.
At dawn, the recruits were handed machetes and knives, said to have been purchased by Chimwendo Banda at a total cost of K800,000.
It has further been revealed that some of the remaining weapons are currently being kept at the residence of Police Commissioner Ackis Muwanga, the National Director of Operations at Area 30 Police Headquarters.
The morning following the mobilization, an individual named Munlo Makina was allegedly given cash by a man identified as Baba Steven Malondera, with instructions to deliver the money to the youth camped at Lilongwe Market.
The cash was reportedly handed over to the market’s chairman, Mr. Zikhale, a figure described as a regular link between Chimwendo Banda and organized youth gangs used to disrupt opposition demonstrations.
Sources indicate that this plot was orchestrated from none other than the State House, implicating the highest levels of authority in the government.
Both the Malawi Police Service and the Malawi Defence Force are alleged to have deployed personnel to monitor the demonstrations—but rather than acting as neutral enforcers of peace, those sent were reportedly MCP loyalists who had already been briefed on their real mission.
Furthermore, massive sums of money were reportedly distributed to key individuals involved in the operation. Valentino Phiri is said to have received K90 million from the State House, Jezebel K70 million, and Commissioner Ackis Muwanga K46 million.
These revelations point to a coordinated effort to silence dissent and weaponize youth against citizens exercising their democratic rights.
The story, still unfolding, highlights the grim reality of political manipulation, misuse of public resources, and growing impunity in Malawi’s governance system.
Indeed, as history has often shown, unchecked power breeds corruption, and silence in the face of injustice only emboldens perpetrators.
