If there is a group that does not stop to astonish me it is the DPP hand clappers mistakenly dubbed spin boys. As I put it the other time, they seem to be taking something illegal. What do I mean?
Over lunch hour, Zodiak announced in its bulletin of an accident that involved the speaker’s official vehicle yesterday. Rumors have it that the head of the legislature was himself the man behind the wheels and that apparently after the accident he ‘run away’ leaving behind a lifeless body of a cyclist.
Now, to put you in the picture, this is the same DPP that one newspaper reported was planning to impeach the same speaker. The leader of house of the government side did not mince words when he was asked as to whether it was indeed true that DPP and its political ally, the UDF, were planning to oust the speaker.
It cannot be an exaggeration therefore, to suggest that any misfortune that befalls the speaker was supposed to make the blue camp salivate. Though contrary to religious teachings, it is humane for us to find ourselves ‘celebrating’ when our adversaries find themselves in such circumstances.
So, in every way, if indeed the speaker was crossing paths of the ruling party and its ally, the police investigation that the speaker finds himself in was supposed to cause some pleasant stir in the ruling side. But celebrating when a fellow human being is in trouble has its own catch. Especially when a life has been lost. Humanists are left awed.
In all fairness, the DPP was supposed to pay tribute to Mr Phiri who has been sent to meet his maker in such a manner. An early and unwarranted death that could perhaps be avoided with some care while celebrating behind the scenes, if you see what I mean.
But for a whole machinery to flood the online media with propaganda and caring less about the pain that the family of the departed are going through is insensitive, if you ask me.
Who will not suspect foul play and DPP’s under hand if the competent arms of government purse the case with professionalism? Isn’t it ironical that when opposition and CSO leaders demand resignation of members of the ruling politburo they are scorned and wished away even before we hear grounds that they are advancing?
