BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Censorship Board (MCB) has declared Aunt Nellie comedy, video clips that have recently been circulating on social media as undesirable, a move that has pushed the comedian to quit comedy.

MCB observes in its response to Catholic Women Organisation’s (CWO) complaint to the board, protesting circulation of Aunt Nellie’s Video clips which it says are disturbing.

According to the letter which CWO wrote the board on February 16, this year, the skits are being done by a young girl are produced by a local musician from Lilongwe, Frank Chawinga, known as Wikise, who is also the girl’s father.

“This is a young girl being used to do video clips with adult themes that are beyond her understanding” reads the letter, signed by CWO’s chair Lady, Lucy Vokhiwa, requesting the ministry of gender, children, disability and social welfare and the board to stop Aunti Nellie productions.

In its response, the censorship board has thanked CWO adding that the board’s examination also showed that the Aunt Nellie’s content is undesirable.

“The video clips mock the modesty of children in general by exposing the young girl to social matters that are adult in nature, potentially corruptive and beyond her level of understanding.

“The censorship board has therefore declared such video clips by Aunt Nellie undesirable as provided under the censorship board and control of entertainment act” writes chief censoring officer, Anganile Nthakomwa.

Nthakomwa has further said the board,  will through a press statement, request the general public to be submitting their productions for review of the board and be guided on context they produce.

Aunt Nellie’s clips, speaking on love matters among other issues, have recently been circulating on social media.

Meanwhile, Chawinga has announced that Aunt Nellie will no longer make the comedy skits.
