ATLANTA (MaraviPost): Many of us in Malawi are rightfully questioning whether we should trust the Vaccinations created by our Colonialists that have a checkered history of taking advantage of Malawians and other African countries.

At the inception of the Coronavirus, many were availed to the viral depiction of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi presumably predicting the West creating the virus and then come up with a cure. A graphic showing Gaddafi was shared on Facebook and Twitter, with text quoting him as saying: “They will create the virus themselves and they will sell the antidotes afterwards, pretending to take their time to find the solution when they already have it.”

The fact that COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca was associated with an increased overall risk of blood clotting disorders, has not helped matters especially to many in Malawi and the Africans who were inclined to be suspicious of the Colonists and others like China and the United States.

Many people have voiced concerns about how quickly the vaccines have become available, how short the testing process was, or who was tested.

While we understand the skepticism is warranted. We felt morally responsible to say the benefits of the vaccine in combating the still widespread threat of COVID-19 (which itself results in clotting problems and may be fatal) continue to outweigh the risk of side effects.

We at the Maravi Post would also like to encourage our Government to use the funds available for the Management of vaccinations to be used responsibly, the government should make the Vaccinations available to all quarters of the country.

Once again, we implore all Malawians to take the vaccinations as the consequences of not doing so will have such catastrophic consequences’
