Malawian man arrested for raping two granddaughters

In Dedza, police have arrested a 90 year-old man for allegedly defiling his two granddaughters aged between 10 and 11.

The suspect who has been identified as Lester Dunken is alleged to have defiled the minors at Kufunda village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachere in the district.

According to Mij FM, Dedza Police deputy publicist Cassim Manda said that on the September 18, 2021, the mother of first victim left home leaving her 10 year-old daughter playing around with her friends.

When she came back she did not see the victim and this made her start searching.

“When the victim heard that her mother was calling outside her grandfather’s house, she pushed him away in the attempt to respond to her. But as she was stepping out of the house, she realized that she forgot her underwear in her grandfather’s bedroom,” said Manda as quoted by Mij FM.

The victim’s mother was surprised to see her daughter coming out of the house with her underwear in her hand.

Upon interviewing her, the young girl then said that she was forced into sex by her grandfather.

The victim also revealed that the elderly man has been defiling her since last year and he had been giving her K100 (one hundred kwacha) all the times.

She further told her mother that the elderly man usually warned her not to reveal the ordeal to anyone.

The mother of the girl then reported the incident to Lobi Police Unit where she was issued with medical report and later the suspect was arrested.

In an interview with police, Lester admitted to have defiled the young girl and her elder sister.

Police made an enquiry on the elder sister of the victim who was also issued with medical report.

The suspect is expected to appear before court soon to answer the charge of defilement contrary to section 138 of penal code.

Dedza aborter gets 24 months IHL for concealing birth

The first grade magistrate court sitting at Dedza has slapped a 21 year-old woman to serve 24 months jail term  for concealing birth of the child.

 

According to Dedza police deputy spokesperson Manda the convict has been  identified the Dorothy Yeletsani.

 

Presenting facts before court, the state prosecutor, Inspector John Chigundu told the court that, Yeletsani on December 9 this year endeavored to conceal the birth of a child at Chitheka village in the district of Dedza which she had been delivered of by secretly disposing the dead body of the child.

 

Chigundu told the court that the matter was revealed after the mother of Yeletsani got suspicious upon seeing her unusual behaviour of sleeping at odd hours.

 

Chigundu further told the court that, Yeletsani was later found with heavily blood stained top and after a lengthy confrontation she revealed that she had an abortion.

 

Chigundu tendered a medical report that was offered to Yeletsani which confirmed that Yeletsani was delivered of the baby.

 

First Grade Magistrate, Symon Mwambo condemned Yeletsani’s behaviour and lamented that illegal abortion is a crime that attracts stiff sentences.

 

Mwambo bemoned the increase in such cases and concurred with the state who requested the court to give Yeletsani a custodial sentence to deter other would be offenders. Mwambo then slapped Yeletsani with 24 months imprisonment  with hard Labour.

 

Yeletsani hails from Chitheka village in the area of traditional authority Kachere in Dedza district.

Two Dedza teachers arrested for defilement

Police in Dedza have arrested two primary school teachers for defiling their own girl learners, Maravi Post has established.

As Bisweck Mitswati, a teacher by profession is on bail answering defilement charges, Police have also arrested Dalitso Sipiliyano, a standard eight teacher for defiling another 16 year old girl learner in the district.

Speaking in an interview, Dedza Police Deputy Spokesperson, Cassim Manda said Sipiliyano had asked the victim to bring him fresh beans at his home.

“The girl arrived at his house with the fresh beans and he asked her to come later and collect the basket at sunset. When the girl came at his house to collect the basket he pushed her into his bedroom and forced himself on her,” Manda said.

“Then the matter was reported to Njonja police post where the victim was given a medical report and the results confirmed that she was defiled,” the Police Publicist added.

In another case, Manda said Mitswati another teacher is also reported to have defiled and impregnated a 15 year old pupil whom he later gave some medicines to abort the pregnancy.

“The girl administered the medicines and successfully aborted the pregnancy and this made the community to be aware of the issue which later forced the police to arrest the teacher,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have issued a warning to parents to refrain from allowing female learners interacting with male teachers outside class working environment to avoid learners falling prey to such animal-like men.

Sipiliyano 24, hails from Nasala village in the area of Traditional Authority Ganya in Ntcheu district while Mitswati aged 27 hails from Njonja village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachere in Dedza.
