Former Malawi Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe dies at 87

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Renowned economist-cum politician Goodall Gondwe has died at 87 in Lilongwe, his nephew Komani Gondwe has confirmed.

Komani says Goodall collapsed on Tuesday, August 7, 2023, at his house in Lilongwe and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Adventist Hospital.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member served in various cabinet positions after working in multiple portfolios as an economist locally and internationally.

Goodall Gondwe hailed from Kayiwononga village at Enukweni in Mzimba where he also served as Member of Parliament.

MEC, National Statistical Head Office to relocate to Lilongwe

Government said it will relocate the head offices of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and the National Statistical to the country’s Capital City, Lilongwe.

Despite claims of misuse, Malawi Parliamentarians demand more funding for CDF

Members of Parliament (MPs) on Tuesday asked the Minister of Finance, Economic and Planning Dr Goodall Gondwe to raise their Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K18 million to K30 Million.

The MPs said this in Parliament when the Finance Minister was addressing the House that Government has set aside some funds through the district councils, to use for the drilling of boreholes in every constituency.

Germany aids Malawi Government to the tune of ‘MK 36 Billion’

Republic of Germany on Tuesday 15 November provided Malawi with 45 Million Euros (MK 36 Billion) which will see improvement in the health, education and social protection sectors.

Speaking at Capital Hill in Lilongwe after signing the financial cooperation agreement, Germany Ambassador to Malawi Jurgen Borsch said the support relates to the commitments that were made during the bilateral negations in October last year.
