Notable new members include Glezelder Jeffrey (former DPP Secretary General), Imran Mtenje (former DPP Regional Governor), Dr. Heatherwick Ntaba (former DPP Publicity Secretary), musician Skeffa Chimoto, and Oscar Asima Taulo (former DPP Deputy Director of Legal Affairs).

At a mega rally at Area 24 Gwenya Primary School Ground in Lilongwe, President Chakwera reiterated his focus on developing Malawi despite criticism.

He thanked Malawians for supporting his administration amid economic challenges and urged party leaders to encourage voter registration and participation in the 2025 general elections.

Dr. Ntaba expressed gratitude for being welcomed back “home” and pledged to work tirelessly for the party.

“I bring extensive experience and commitment to propel MCP forward,” he said.

Glezelder Jeffrey assured Chakwera of her support and that of others who joined with her.

MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda criticized opposition parties for using Chilima’s name for political gain and praised President Chakwera’s fair distribution of national resources. Chimwendo Banda predicted an MCP victory in 2025.

Local MP Nancy Tembo attributed the rally’s success to President Chakwera’s clean politics and equal distribution of development projects. She thanked the President for increasing Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations.

Senior Chief Tsabango praised the President’s Mega Farm initiative, development projects, and social financial support through Mtukula pa Khomo Program.

Road to 2025: MCP ropes in Ntaba, Jeffrey, Mtenje from DPP

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In a significant political shift, three influential members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Imlan Mtenje, Grezelder Jeffrey, and Dr. Heatherwick Ntaba on Sunday, September 15, 2025, joined the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

The trio appeared at the MCP Mega rally held at Area 24 in the capital Lilongwe.

President Lazarus Chakwera welcomed the trio into the party.

Having been a key member of the DPP for over a decade, Ntaba played a vital role in shaping the party’s direction.

A well-known Malawian medical doctor and politician, Ntaba previously served as the DPP’s Publicity Secretary.

His extensive political career includes serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1994, followed by his role as the Secretary-General of the DPP.

Jeffrey was key in DPP as a former SG who worked tirelessly for the party while Mtenje was vital in the eastern region.

The defections of these notable figures have sparked discussions about the future of the opposition party and the potential impact on the political landscape in Malawi.
