Lilongwe father Raphael Banda arrested for defiling biological daughter

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police Service (MPS) at Kawale station in the capital Lilongwe are keeping in custody Raphael Petros Banda aged 37 for defiling his 12 years biological daughter.

The incident occurred during the night of March 03,2023 at Mchesi location.

Kawale Police Station deputy publicist Prisca Kuyere Mtikwa told the Maravi Post that the victim’s biological mother on March 1,reported to the police that the suspect whom she did not marry invited the child to his house to help him with house chores.

“The victim did not return back to her mother’s house at Chilinde. On March 07,2023, the suspect returned home during night and found the victim sleeping at the sitting room.

“The suspect took the victim to his bedroom where he defiled her. She tried to shout for help but the victim covered her mouth with his hands. The following morning, the victim returned to her mother and reported the ordeal,” Mtikwa said.

She added, “Without hesitation, on March 10,2023 the mother reported to Kawale Police where the victim was refered to Kamuzu Central Hospital for examination and treatment. Medical reports indicated that she was really defiled and suspect was arrested on the same day.

“Banda will appear before court soon to answer charges of defilement contrary to section 138(1) of the penal code and Incest by males contrary to section 157 (1) of the penal code”.

He hails from Lupiya Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Kanduku in Mwanza District.

Lilongwe taxi driver MacDonald Ben arrested over passenger robbery

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 25-year-old MacDonald Ben, a taxi driver who is suspected to have robbed passengers who boarded his motor vehicle on the evening of August 16, 2022.

According to Kawale Police Station Public Relations Officer Mabvuto Phiri, on the stated date, Deborah Kameta and Miriam Mose boarded a taxi registration BZ627 which was being driven by the suspect from Lilongwe town to Area 23 and the taxi had another passenger already on board suspected to be his accomplice.

Upon arrival at their destination, the suspect cruised and later stopped at a nearby bush about 8kms away from the intended destination.

Fortunately, the victims ran away and also captured the registration number of the motor vehicle but left behind their belongings worthy MK560,000.

Phiri added that the suspect was arrested on Monday August 21, 2022 while driving the same motor vehicle and that both complainants identified the suspect and some stolen items were recovered.

He said currently, police investigations are underway to arrest his accomplice.

Ben is expected to appear before court soon to answer robbery charge which is against Section 301 of the Penal Code.

Malawi’s Lilongwe woman arrested for killing her own three months old baby

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police at Kawale Station in the capital Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 23-year-old woman identified as Ethel Gustone for allegedly killing her own three months old baby girl.

Kawale Police Station publicist Mabvuto Phiri confirmed of the arrest with the press on Monday June 20, 2022 saying Gustone dumped the baby in a stream within Area 23.

Phiri said the reports gathered indicate that the woman killed the baby and wrapped her in a sack bag before throwing her in Msambeta stream and the matter came to the limelight after a farmer noticed the child floating in Msambeta stream which is close to his farm.

He added that Detectives acted on the matter after the farmer sort police intervention and the suspect was arrested during the night of June 19, 2022 and she is expected to appear before court soon to answer murder charges.

Gustone hails from Kavithiwa Village in the Area of Traditional Authority ( T.A) Chikowi in Zomba.
