Police arrest guard Shadrick Clever over Anglican varsity student Lizzie Nyson’s murder

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 26-year-old man, Shadrick Clever, on suspicion that he murdered a 22-year-old Lizzie Nyson who was a student at Lake Malawi Anglican University (LAMAU ).

According to Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, Clever had been on the run until last night when police arrested him at Chilipa in Mangochi District, where he is believed to have been hiding.

Chigalu says the arrest of Clever follows a successful special investigation they launched into the case.

He says through the investigation, officers also managed to recover the victim’s mobile phone from a person to whom Clever had allegedly sold it.

Clever works as a security guard for Longways Construction Company in Lilongwe.

He comes from Kaongo Village, Senior Chief Kachindamoto in Dedza District.

The body of Lizzie Nyson was discovered on April 3 in a bushy area in Area 47 in Lilongwe, wrapped in a mosquito net.

Malawi Police on manhunt for security Guard Clever over varsity female student Lizzie murder

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Lilongwe have launched a manhunt for a security guard suspected of being involved in the brutal murder of a 22-year-old third-year female student at Lake Malawi Anglican University, identified as Lizzie Nyson.

Nyson’s body was discovered yesterday wrapped in a mosquito net and dumped in a nearby bush about 20 metres from the fence of the house where she had been staying with the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Shadreck Clever, age not known, from Kaongo Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Kachindamoto in Dedza District.

He was employed by in Lilongwe as a security guard.

Reports say that Nyson (deceased) was one of the needy students and had been staying in a rented hostel in Mtsiriza with other girls.

However, recently, due to challenges in paying rent, she was forced to move into a quarters apartment where the suspect was residing while providing security services at a construction site in Area 47, sector 1.

It is strongly suspected that Nyson was murdered during the night of March 22, 2026, in the house where she was staying, as signs of violence were observed at the scene.

A postmortem conducted by a medical practitioner from Kamuzu Central Hospital, revealed that death was caused by head injuries secondary to assault.

Investigations further established that the suspect (Clever), suspiciously left his workplace for an unknown destination on March 23, 2026, and has not been seen since.

Meanwhile, Lilongwe Police detectives have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the suspect so that he can face justice.

The deceased, Lizzie Nyson, hailed from Chipanga Village, T/A Machinjiri in Blantyre District.

The Police therefore advise students and young women to remain alert and vigilant, and to report any suspicious criminal behaviour directed at them by strangers or even people they know, in order to avoid falling prey to criminals.
