Zambian national arrested for illegal importing ivory

MCHINJI-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in the border district of Mchinji, arrested a twenty-six-year-old Zambian national for illegal importing ivory.

Mchinji Police Station Spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino, identified the suspect as Nelson Goma, who was arrested along Mkanda-Mchinji Road, after police successfully followed a tip from a member of the community.

Lubrino told The Maravi Post, that Goma was found in possession of nine pieces of ivory, weighing about 27 kilograms (kg). Continue reading Zambian national arrested for illegal importing ivory

NKHATABAY-(MaraviPost): – A 27-year old man in the central and Lakeshore district of Nkhatabay, is in police custody for allegedly murdering his own uncle. Nkhotakota Police Station Spokesperson Ignatius Esau, identified the suspect as Edward Longwe and the deceased Symon Longwe aged 52. 

Esau told The Maravi Post that the suspect committed the crime on March 26, this year at Mpamba in the district. It is suspected the crime was committed as part of a ritual meant to fulfil ritual commitments. Continue reading Nkhatabay man arrested for murdering uncle; private parts removed

Lilongwe men arrested for stealing in church; items recovered

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police at Lingadzi station in Lilongwe on Monday arrested two out of four men for allegedly stealing assorted items at Trinity Ministry Church in Area 49.

MACHINGA-(MaraviPost)– A burglary, and stealing of school bag and goat in the eastern district of Machinga, has landed a 30-year old Mozambican national six years in jail after being found guilty in the district court by Second  Grade Magistrate Maxwell Boazi. The theft is contrary to sections 309 and 278 of Penal Code respectively.

The convict identified as Assam Ishmael committed the crime last week when he was caught selling a goat which was believed to have been stolen from one of the houses at Chaphuka village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Bwananyambi in the district.
