NKHATABAY-(MaraviPost): – A 27-year old man in the central and Lakeshore district of Nkhatabay, is in police custody for allegedly murdering his own uncle. Nkhotakota Police Station Spokesperson Ignatius Esau, identified the suspect as Edward Longwe and the deceased Symon Longwe aged 52.
Esau told The Maravi Post that the suspect committed the crime on March 26, this year at Mpamba in the district. It is suspected the crime was committed as part of a ritual meant to fulfil ritual commitments.
The police publicist said the suspect was in good terms with the deceased. On that fateful day, it was Symon, brother to late Edward, who discovered the ordeal when he visited his brother’s house.
“The deceased was living alone. After discovering that there was no reply after knocking on the door for several times, Symon Longwe called other relatives and together they forced the door open. Inside the house, they found the deceased lying on the carpet.
“The body was taken to Nkhatabay district hospital where it was discovered that the deceased’s private parts, had been removed; and an autopsy revealed that severe loss of blood and head injuries contributed to the death of Mr. Longwe,” Esau said.
