Malawi Polytechnic IT expert Mayamiko Nkoloma distances himself from election rigging claims

Mayamiko Nkoloma: As we go to vote in a couple of weeks, I look forward to a new Malawi clean of jealousy and envious people that always are not happy to see fellow hard working Malawians doing above average

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—Mayamiko Nkoloma, a lecturer at Malawi Polytechnic, who also own an engineering and technology company that has been recognized as the fastest growing IT company in Malawi and beyond, has rubbished continued allegations that links him to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vote rigging scheme.

Writing on social media, Nkoloma says those spreading the “lies” are the enemies of his success and their aim is to bring him down by dragging his business in the mud through politics.

“With regret I have noticed that some people are not happy with my success and they always try to bring me down. Having tried so many things and failed they resorted to use politics by fabricating a lot of stories not only to tarnish my image but also to bring danger to my life and that of my family. On a number of occasions some people not known to me have been deliberately linking me to DPP vote rigging on social media for a reason best known to themselves,” Nkoloma says.

Nkoloma further says that such unfounded allegations were also rife in the run up to the 2019 tripartite elections yet the elections were conducted in his absence as he was in the Republic of South Africa.

“On Saturday, 18 May 2019 I travelled to South Africa to meet my business partners. I was due to return to Malawi the following Monday after the voting week. On Saturday, 25 May 2019 while I was still in SA my brother called me telling of what was circulating in social media that I was in Mulanje aiding DPP to rig (election) by login into MEC computers.

“At first I laughed it off and later discovered it was all over and some people believed it and started threatening me and my family. In fear of what could easily happen to my life I decided to extend my stay and whilst there I issued a letter to all political parties denying my involvement in the alleged rig. The letter was delivered on Sunday, a day before results were officially out,”  Nkoloma says.

“I am not surprised to start seeing again that another version of the same story linking me to the same vote rigging circulating across the social media. They are talking of an alleged communication cables linking COMESA Hall and DPP and they are linking me to the same. I would like to mention to the general public that I do my own things and I have nothing to do with any political party and have no interest in politics,” he added.

Nkoloma, therefore, has urged the general public to ignore any allegation linking him to DPP vote rigging, saying  what people have been circulating about him is complete propaganda to deal with his business taking advantage of the political climate in the country.

He has further warned to bring to the book all those responsible for the character assassination.

“I will try everything I can to bring the people behind this to book. It is good to simply come out clear if there are any issues personally against me or my business instead of trying to create stories that put my life and that of my family in danger.

“As we go to vote in a couple of weeks, I look forward to a new Malawi clean of jealousy and envious people that always are not happy to see fellow hard working Malawians doing above average,” he said.

Mayamiko Nkoloma is a Lecturer in Telecommunications at the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic. He is a holder of an MSc in wireless communication from University of Sheffield in UK and also holds Master of Technology degree in advanced Information Technology with specialisation in Telecommunications and Networking from International Institute of Information and Technology in Pune, India.

Additionally, he obtained a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Malawi Polytechnic. There are numerous innovations to his credit.

He is the winner of 2016 ICT Innovation Awards in Transport Category and he represented Malawi in South Korea courtesy of Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).
