Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has quite the impressive squad off the field, too. 

Freeman, who became the head football coach at Notre Dame in December 2021, married his wife, Joanna Freeman, in 2010. The couple met during Marcus’ time at The Ohio State University, where Marcus was a star linebacker. At the time, Joanna was attending another college nearby.

Joanna, a former news reporter at WBNS-Channel 10 in Columbus, is now a full-time mother to the couple’s six children: son Vinny, daughter Siena, son Gino, son Nico, daughter Capri, and son Rocco.

Marcus also has a daughter named Bria from a previous relationship.

At Marcus’ introductory press conference in South Bend in 2021, Joanna and all six kids were front and center for the festivities. Since then, Marcus has routinely shared family highlights and milestones for Irish faithful on social media.

Joanna has been by Marcus’ side through the ups and downs of his playing and coaching career — but she admitted it hasn’t been easy. 

“We don’t have a super romantic love story,” Joanna told Yahoo Sports in 2021. “We had a lot of breakups and make-ups. We fell hard. We fell fast. We were really young when we met, and in a lot of ways, we really grew and matured into adults together.”

On Mother’s Day in 2024, Marcus paid tribute to Joanna — and his own mother, Chong — and thanked them for all they’ve done for him. 

“I’m so blessed to have these two amazing women in my life,” Marcus shared via Instagram. “They have impacted our family in so many ways with their selflessness and unconditional love.

Vinny is busy following in his father’s athletic footsteps. 

A senior at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana, plays safety for the school’s football team. 

Vinny is also an accomplished wrestler, making an official visit to Cornell University in August 2024 before announcing his official commitment to the Ivy League school in April 2025.

“They say in order to be the best, you have to beat the best,” Vinny told the South Bend Tribune in February 2024. “I want to be the best.”

In January 2026, Marcus was accused of getting into a physical altercation with a wrestling coach from another school at one of Vinny’s meets. After a brief investigation, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office announced that no charges would be filed against Marcus.

“Based on a review of all of the evidence, the State would not be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime occurred,” a statement read. “While the evidence suggests that a touching may have occurred, an inadvertent touching is not sufficient.  The State is therefore declining to file any criminal charges.”

Siena became a beloved part of the Cincinnati Bearcats football family when Marcus was the school’s defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2020. 

“Wild Card Sunday with the Fam!,” Marcus shared via Instagram in January. In the accompanying photo, Siena could be seen posing with members of the football team while holding her sister, Capri.

Marcus also passed down his love of football to his son, Gino.

“It’s officially football season for the Freeman’s,” Marcus posted via Instagram in July 2018, showing Gino and brother Vinny wearing football helmets and posing with their father.

Gino had some solo time with his Dad in May 2019, when they attended a Cincinnati Reds baseball game together.

Nico celebrated his 4th birthday with some pizza, his siblings and a group of friends — including then Cincinnati head coach, Luke Fickell — in July 2019.

Capri met her smiley siblings in June 2017. “Welcome to this world and our family Capri!!” Marcus wrote via Instagram along with a photo of Capri being held by her brother Vinny and her sister, Siena, with her other brothers, Gino and Nico, sitting on the couch beaming. 

All the kids were, of course, decked out in University of Cincinnati gear.

Shortly after being born, Rocco celebrated the holidays with his parents and five siblings.

Stephen A. Smith Mistakes NFL Star for Charlie Kirk in Awkward On-Air Flub

Stephen A. Smith was forced to make a quick recovery on the air after mistaking NFL star Christian Kirk for late political commentator Charlie Kirk.

Smith, 58, was recapping the Houston Texans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers playoff game during the Tuesday, January 13, episode of ESPN’s First Take when the awkward mixup occurred.

“We saw Charlie Kirk catch eight receptions for 144 yards,” Smith declared before being corrected by host Shae Peppler Cornette.

Smith then continued, saying, “I’m sorry, I apologize. Oh, my God, I meant Christian Kirk.”

The 29-year-old wide receiver helped lead the Texans to a 30-6 victory over Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers on Monday, January 12. The Texans continue their path to the Super Bowl next Sunday, January 18, when they play the New England Patriots in the AFC divisional round.

Charlie, meanwhile, was shot and killed at an event held at Utah Valley University in September 2025. He was 31 years old.

The Turning Point USA cofounder was a polarizing figure, sparking a widespread conversation about his beliefs in the wake of his death. Smith previously addressed the fatal shooting on his podcast in September 2025.

“I don’t care what his political beliefs were. I don’t care what he felt,” Smith said at the time. “That he’s dead at the age of 31. That his wife is a widow. That his children are fatherless because his ideas and his beliefs differed from somebody else, apparently. And then I’m going online, and I’m seeing people celebrating it. Shame! Shame on you!”

Smith went on to praise the New York Yankees, who had recently held a moment of silence in Charlie’s honor before a game against the Detroit Tigers.

“Props to the New York Yankees organization last night for having a moment of silence,” Smith continued. “We’re not supposed to condone stuff like this. We’re not supposed to say it’s OK. I don’t give a damn who you are — Black, white or anything in between. I hope the FBI and law enforcement catch this individual and do what needs to be done with him.”

Charlie is survived by his wife, Erika Kirk, and their two young children.

“Life is a little different,” she wrote via Instagram. “It’s this rhythm of maintaining our traditions mixed in with creating new ones to harmonize into a normalcy for the babies. “She had an amazing time with Jayden on Christmas,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “They laughed a lot and bonded more than they have in a while.”

The insider shares that Spears, 44, and Jayden, 19, enjoyed a “really delicious glazed ham that a close family friend made” and also “watched movies, played and listened to music.” In addition, a “few good family friends stopped by to wish them a merry Christmas,” according to the source.

“It was a really beautiful and memorable time,” the insider adds. “It deepened their connection.”

“Britney was really hurt that Preston didn’t spend Christmas with her and Jayden, but he chose not to,” the source tells Us. “She tried to convince him, but he wasn’t ready to meet her halfway.”

Britney became estranged from most of her family during her 13-year conservatorship, which a Los Angeles judge terminated in 2021 after the “Gimme More” singer described it as “abusive” during a bombshell court hearing. However, Britney reconciled with Jayden last year and has since seen Preston a few times too.

“Preston feels really comfortable with his grandmother and his cousins and family in Louisiana, and he thought it would be a nice way to spend Christmas this year,” the insider explains of Britney and her ex-husband Kevin Federline‘s eldest child, who moved to Hawaii with his dad in 2023.

The source tells Us that Britney sent Christmas gifts to Preston in Louisiana, and she “got jewelry” from an undisclosed “family member.”

With a new year approaching, Britney hopes to continue making progress with both of her sons.

“Things have gotten a lot easier in their relationship since the boys turned 18,” the insider tells Us. “No one is telling them what to do and when to do it. They’re free to live the way they want, and that’s been a blessing for Britney. It’s now up to her and the boys on how their relationship develops. No one else is in control of that. The boys also understand more now on an emotional level of what Britney’s actually been through.”

Three days later, Britney sarcastically called out her family for commemorating the holiday without her.

“Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix,” she wrote via Instagram. “To my dear sweet innocent family … so so sorry I was busy this Christmas but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon … I can’t wait …. hello, beautiful Ivy [sic] … I just want to hold you, my love … Godspeed, friends.”

Patrick Mahomes, the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, makes sure to show his appreciation for his fellow members of the team’s offense.

“I got the o-line a gift that they got today. I got them some golf clubs, some designer luggage to take on the road and some other little things here and there that they could have,” Mahomes revealed during a December 2022 appearance on Audacy’s “The Drive” radio show. “I tried to get everyone a little something. All the o-line’s telling me they wanna golf, so I got them all custom fitted golf clubs, so hopefully they can pick up their game and they’ll be able to go out and play a few rounds with me.”

Mahomes, an avid golfer himself, upped the ante the next year. For the 2023 holidays, Mahomes gave the entire o-line customized golf carts.

Before the Japanese pitcher signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, Dodgers player Joe Kelly’s wife, Ashley, lobbied hard for Ohtani to join the team with her #Ohtake17 social media campaign. After Ohtani officially signed with the Dodgers, he gave Ashley a new car.

“Yeah, I’m not a big designer guy, [but] when we got those for Christmas, I was like, ‘That’s not bad … This is really nice,” offensive tackle Jordan Mailata said during a November 2023 episode of the “New Heights” podcast.

The next year, center Jason Kelce noted on “New Heights” that Hurts handed out white luxury watches to their teammates.

The Cincinnati Bengals QB went with a unique gifting option in 2025 by handing out authentic dinosaur, bear and mammoth fossils during a Christmas gathering at his home. ESPN reported that the Bengals’ offensive linemen were able to pick which fossil they wanted by using seniority to determine the order.

Aaron Rodgers made sure his Pittsburgh Steelers offensive linemen had a very merry Christmas this year.

On Saturday, December 27, the Steelers quarterback, 42, revealed via Instagram that he’d gifted his linemen Can-Am Maverick X3 off-road vehicles — which range in price from $19,999 to $29,000, according to Pennsylvania dealership Mosites Motorsports. Rodgers donned a “The Dude Abides” sweater from The Big Lebowski as he surprised his offensive line with the expensive gifts.

“Christmas gifts for the big guys done right. 🌲 🎁Can-Am Maverick X3-X turbo’s for the boys,” Rodgers wrote in the Instagram caption.

The footage showed Rodgers being thanked by his linemen before he decided it was time to test out their new off-road vehicles.

“Alright, let’s take them on a joy ride,” Rodgers challenged his teammates.

The dealership posted a separate behind-the-scenes look at the tremendous preparation that went into Rodgers’ surprise for his Steelers O-line. Hours before Rodgers presented the vehicles, each one had to be loaded separately onto massive trucks.

“The night before Christmas Eve, getting everything dialed in for Aaron Rodgers’ O-Line delivery,” Mosites Motorsports explained. “A lot of work goes into moments like this.”

Mosites joked that Rodgers was “rewarding the guys who protect the pocket.”

The dealership also boasted that their team helped Rodgers give “his offensive line the gift of horsepower” this festive season.

“Safe to say, [the gifts] delivered,” Mosites Motorsports declared.

Rodgers and his Pittsburgh Steelers are one game away from earning a spot in the NFL playoffs. If the Steelers manage to beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, December 28, they will secure a spot in the AFC playoffs.

ESPN’s Bengals reporter Ben Baby revealed that Burrow, 29, invited offensive linemen to his home on December 22, where he had the fossils displayed. Each lineman was invited to pick a fossil to take home with them, with the order determined by seniority.

“I think it speaks to his intelligence and interests and his desire to do something unique,” Bengals center Ted Karras told ESPN on Friday, December 26, of Burrow’s presents. “I thought it was really special.”

As for Rodgers, his pricey gifts follow a contentious week for the Steelers QB after he was caught on a hot mic disparaging Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell about his age after a play on December 21.

“Oh, you don’t want me to help pick you up? Why?” Rodgers was heard asking Campbell, 22, in between plays. “‘Cause you’re slower than a 42-year-old. Is that why? You’re slower than a 42-year-old?”

Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers ultimately beat the Lions 29-24.

In the series of snaps, the couple cozied up to one another in matching Christmas outfits as they posed in front of a festively decorated Christmas tree.

The public appearance of Nicola’s parents on the couple’s Instagram appeared to make the ongoing absence of David, 50, and Victoria, 51, even more glaring for followers.

“Why don’t you show love to the Beckham family?!” questioned one person in the comments section, while another wrote, “I’m surprised you haven’t dropped the surname Beckham because you were all quick to drop the Beckhams.”

The post comes less than a week after Cruz Beckham, 20, accused his older brother Brooklyn of blocking their parents as well as him. (David and Victoria also share son Romeo, 23, and daughter Harper, 14.)

To show his deep of his love and humility, Wiseman Daniel was personally in the kitchen to prepare and pack the meals that he shared with pupils of the nursery school. He also join the Elohim team to load the items to be donated which includes brand new shoes, bags, stationeries, water bottles, toothbrushes, packed cooked meals, and drinks.

When they get to the destination at the nursery and primary school, Wiseman Daniel as well joins his team to offload the items to be shared with the pupils.

Given the gift items of shoes and handbags to the proprietress, Mrs Giwa and the teachers, the man of God appreciates their commitment to imparting knowledge to the little ones.
