When former Malawi leader, Dr. H. Kamuzu Banda was released from his one-year detention in Gwero in 1961, he proceeded to Britain (the U.K.) and negotiated Malawi’s independence. He was an eloquent orator, who earlier in 1953 wrote a ten thousand word letter to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to voice his dissent on the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. And in 1961 when he went knocking on 10 Downing Street, with sharp words, he convinced the British Government to break the Federation, and at the same time, to allow Nyasaland become a self-governing nation. MY TAKE ON IT: Higher political figure takes up ownership of higher education

In the twenty years that Malawi has enjoyed democratic governance, ironically the country has also experience a degeneration in the delivery, administration and undertaking of higher education. Among the reasons for this degeneration are hiking of tuition, demands by tutors or support staff for salary or displeasure with the head of the various institutions. Petroleum Importers Limited excites Luanar with MK100 million donation for multipurpose hall

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-In its continued quest of corporate social responsibility drive in the education sector, this time on tertiary, the country’s main fuel carrier, Petroleum Importation Limited (PIL) has again pumped in MK100 million (US$290,000) for the construction of the multipurpose hall at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar).
