Mulanje Police calls for community support in fight against crime

The Officer-In-Charge for Mulanje Police, Moses Chibwe, has called on community members to work closely with the police in the fight against crime in Mulanje District.

Chibwe made the remarks during a community awareness campaign held at Manyamba Primary School in the area of Traditional Authority Njema.

Chibwe emphasized the importance of community-police collaboration in maintaining peace and security in the district.

He urged community members to provide information to the police about any criminal activities they may witness or suspect.

“The police cannot do it alone,” Chibwe said, adding that, “We need the support of the community to effectively fight crime and maintain peace in our district. We urge community members to work closely with us and provide any information that can help us prevent and investigate crimes.”

Chibwe also took the opportunity to caution community members against acts of violence, particularly as the country heads into the upcoming political campaign period.

He reminded them that violence only serves to undermine peace and stability in the community.

“We are approaching a critical period in our country’s political calendar,” Chibwe said, adding that, “As we prepare for the elections, we urge community members to refrain from acts of violence and instead promote peace and tolerance. Let’s work together to ensure that our district remains peaceful and secure.”

Traditional Authority Njema, who attended the awareness campaign, commended Chibwe for organizing the event.

He described it as an eye-opener for the people in his area, highlighting the importance of community-police collaboration in fighting crime.

“We appreciate the efforts of the police in reaching out to the community and sensitizing them on the importance of working together to fight crime,” Traditional Authority Njema said, adding that,”We urge the police to continue with such initiatives, as they are crucial in promoting peace and security in our district.”

The Traditional Authority also appealed to the police to respond swiftly to emergencies whenever they receive reports.

He emphasized the importance of timely response in preventing crimes and saving lives.

“We urge the police to respond quickly to emergency calls,” he said. “Timely response can make a big difference in preventing crimes and saving lives. We are confident that with the support of the community, the police can effectively maintain peace and security in our district,” he added.

The community awareness campaign is part of the police’s efforts to engage with the community and promote collaboration in fighting crime.

Mulanje police arrest two Nigerians for illegal entry

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police in Mulanje are keeping in custody two Nigerian nationals over illegal entry.

They two Kingsley Mwachuku, 25, and Vincent Onyeneka, 27.

The Police arrested them on the night of October 17, 2022 after receiving a tip-off from well wishers that there were suspicious people staying in Mathambi village.

Upon receipt of the information, Police rushed to the scene and arrested Mwachuku and his accomplice.

They both have no proper documents allowing them to stay in Malawi.

However, the two have been charged with illegal entry which contravenes section 21 of the Penal code and will appear in court soon.

Two Malawi’s Mulanje men arrested over murder

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Police in Mulanje are keeping in custody two men, Thomas Sailes, 30 and Moses Gwembere, 45 for allegedly killing a 23-year-old suspect, Chisomo Chimwaza.

It is reported that on July 7, 2022 at around 19:00 hours, Chimwaza, who came from Mulakata Village, Traditional Authority( T.A) Juma in the district, broke into the house of Imurani Chiotcha and stole a bicycle.

When surrounding communities heard about this, they apprehended Chimwaza and assaulted him to death.

Police had since been investigating the incident and arrested the two on Tuesday night, August 2, 2022.

Both suspects who come from Muhiyo Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Juma in Mulanje are facing murder charges.

Meanwhile, more arrests are expected as police are still following the matter.

Police are therefore, warning people in the district against taking the law into their hands as this is criminal and punishable by law.

A girl identiefied as Mercy Chibwana from Namulenga village in Mulanje, has resurrected after she died 20 years ago, police has confirmed.

Mulanje police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira, said the girl, now a woman reappeared in the district ?on Wednesday morning.

Ngwira said the girl died in 1997 while she was in form 2.

“Yesterday the girl reappeared, and started following another woman who asked her where she was going, only to tell her that she would narrate everything to the police,” Ngwira said.

“When she arrived at Namulenga police unit, she failed to say anything, compelling officers to refer her to the nearby health centre.” he added.

According to Ngwira, while there, she started mentioning some names of her relatives, which made the people to call the mentioned relations who identified her through some marks on her body.

Due to her health condition, the doctors at Mulanje district hospital admitted her, and she is receiving treatment. The medical authorities have asked the police to let her rest.

The police said they will continue interrogating the girl when she comes into her sense.
