Karonga United dares Mzuni FC in league clash

Rookies Karonga United Football Club (FC) have spoken tough ahead of their TNM Super League encounter against Mzuzu University FC on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium in their debut encounter.

In an interview on Friday with Malawi News Agency (Mana), Karonga United coach Christopher Nyambose said his charges would go flat out in the quest for maximum points.

“This is a must-win game for us considering our position on the standings and my charges are geared to turn the tables come Sunday so that we can move up from our current position,” he declared.

He added that his team would carry the day come rain or sunshine because they know the weakness of their opponents.

However, the Crocodiles from Karonga are coming to this game without their three key players Precious Washali, Brian Phiri who are nursing injuries and Sheriff Shamama has accumulated two yellow cards.

Team Manager for Mzuni FC, McNerbert Kazuwa said his charges are ready for the encounter as they look forward to bounce back after the recent draw in the Mzuzu derby.

“The morale is high in our camp ahead of the match and the players have given out everything in training to deliver and I believe come Sunday we will come out victors,” he pointed out.

Kazuwa added that all his troops are fit for the encounter and that there are no injury concerns on his side and that they expect a tough match against Karonga United.

Mzuni and Karonga are on position 12 and 9 with 4 and 5 points, respectively, on the log table.

Mzuni FC vows to come back strong after Nchalo United defeat

Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Football Club (FC) says it will go back to the drawing board to ensure the team starts winning following its 1-0 loss to Nchalo United in a 2018/19 league opener on Saturday.

Speaking in an interview after the match, Mzuni’s team manager, McNebert Kazuwa said his charges failed to cope with Nchalo United players’ fast pace.

“We failed to contain the fast play of our opponents as we were slow and second on the ball,” Kazuwa said.

He further said the team has trust in the current squad and it will turn the tables soon.

“We trust the boys and I am confident that come the next game they will deliver for the team considering the display which they showed in the second half of the match. We were attacking but we were betrayed by lack of fire power,” he said.

Kazuwa asked Mzuni’s fans not to despair saying the team would come back strong in the next game.

On his part, Nchalo United coach, Charles Manda hailed his boys for the fighting spirit which afforded them a dream start for their debut season.

“I thank God and the fighting spirit by my players as they are just young stars, fresh from the second tier league,” Manda said.

A stunning header in the 13th minute from Ishmael Ziyembe was enough to seal victory for the lower Shire based side.

Despite the win, Nchalo United loses the three points following a punishment by the country’s football governing body after the team was found guilty for attempted match fixing last year in a Carlsberg cup game against Chitipa United.

MZUZU (Maravi Post)—Its Christmas in June for Karonga United FC as they have registered their first ever win in the TNM Super League after sensationally beating the defending Champions Nyasa Bullets in a game which was fairly patronized at the Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.

The brilliant rocket launched by Karonga United FC striker Mwenepeka from a free kick separated men from boys today as Big Bullets goal keeper Ernest Kakhobwe couldn’t help but to collect the ball, which was almost traveling at the speed of light, from the net.

Big Bullets senior official Billy Tewesa was quick to apologize to the millions of Bullets supporters in the country for the shameful loss.

He attributed the loss due to poor officiating saying the referee had let them down.

“We apologize for the loss but we promise to revenge when they come at our own backyard,” said Tewesa.

Karonga United FC Coach Kondwani Mwalwuni was over the moon.

“We have found the winning formula—we are building a team and we will continue doing so. We promised fans that we will deliver the first ever three points today,” said the coach.

Elsewhere, Mzuzu University FC had a nice journey in Malawi’s central region as they are returning back home with four points from a possible 6 points. They drew with giants Blue Eagles FC on Saturday before invading Chitowe stadium on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Dwangwa United FC.
