Malawi Former President JB warned against imposing son as Chilima’s runningmate; Road to May 21 polls

… Malawians too, laugh-off the arrangement

By Nenenji Mlangeni

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Political commentators have warned former president Joyce Banda to reject the temptation of imposing her son, Roy Kachale, as Saulos Chilima’s running mate.

The analysts say if the newly formed electoral alliance wants to preach transformation, then it should start by walking the sermon.

One of the commentators, Isaac Kumpama, a Blantyre International University (BIU) political science lecturer was reacting to reports that Joyce Banda wants her son Roy to partner Chilima in May 21’s watershed elections.

It is however understood that this has brought discomfort within the Peoples Party (PP) ranks and files as Roy is regarded as a political novice.

Said Kumpama:  “It would be hypocrisy of highest order for Joyce Banda to be pushing Chilima to pick her son. Banda went out of DPP on the basis that Bingu wa Mutharika wanted his brother, Peter to succeed him. She rejected the arrangement and it shouldn’t be sweet now simply because it is involving her biological son.”

Concurring with Kumpama, a PP high ranking official who did not want to be named added that for Chilima to pair Kachale, it would turn the whole arrangement into a Catholic Church affair.

“We shouldn’t only feel uncomfortable to have people from the same region running political parties. Let’s reject churchism as well. Already, people view UTM as a Catholic Church political wing. So why should we legitimize the assertion by forming an alliance only to have catholics leading it?”argued the official.

On Friday Febreary 1, the country witnessed the formation of opposition alliance consisting of four political parties namely UTM Party, Peoples Party, Alliance for Democracy (Aford) and Tikonze Progressive Party and its expected to name its torch bearer on Monday in Lilongwe.

A joint statement issued by the parties dated 31st January 2019 comes barely 24 hours after Vice President and UTM Party President Saulos Chilima announced at a news conference in Lilongwe on Wednesday that his party was in talks with other opposition parties for a possible electoral alliance.

“WE, the members of UTM, People’s Party (‘PP’), Alliance for Democracy (‘AFORD’) and Tikonze Progressive Movement (‘TPM’), (hereinafter ‘the Parties’) acting through our duly elected leaders; Hereby announce the formation of an electoral alliance between the Parties for the purposes of contesting in the May 2019 Tripartite Elections,” reads the statement in part.

“The Parties have agreed to support one presidential candidate who shall be announced on Monday, 4thFebruary, 2019 at Bingu International Conference Centre at 9:30am,” adds the statement signed by UTM President Saulos Chilima, Peoples party President Joyce Banda, Aford President Enock Chihana and Tikonze progressive movement Interim Vice President Mark Katsonga Phiri.

The parties said they decided to go into an electoral alliance after appreciating the undoubted importance of unity among all Malawians, irrespective of political persuasions, to the attainment of this country’s development goals and recognizing that cooperation between well-meaning and unselfish Malawians sharing common political ideologies and interests is indispensable and in the interests of ordinary Malawians.

The parties also said another reason for the electoral alliance is that they realized that there is a groundswell for support united front among Malawians discontented with the sad state of affairs in this country.

“Further details of the electoral alliance shall be announced at the aforesaid press conference which shall be addressed by the undersigned leaders of the Parties,” concludes the statement.

DPP Government and President Peter Mutharika Must Stop Harassing Citizens With Tramped Up Charges And Concentrate On Cleaning Its House Of Corruption and Theft

Former Malawi President Joyce Banda: returns home on 18 February, 2017

In 2016 four MCP legislators were arrested over tramped up charges over a conversation on WhatsApp. In 2017 the very same government used the Malawi Police to scare former president Joyce Banda with a fake warrant of arrest.

In June 2018 when Maenga exposed the MRA looting after a tip off by staff at revenue collector implicating Mrs. Rosa Mbilizi and first lady Getrude Mutharika DPP went cloud nine hunting and threatening the administrator of Maenga who happens to be the Dictumist of the new era Saunders Jumah.

In 2019 the same government arrested two assistants of the vice president Saulos Chilima without any reasonable charge.

Towards the end 2019 niece to President Peter Mutharika was humiliated at the airport when returning to America where she resides arrested and cancelled her flight.

Few days ago director of elections of UTM Bon Kalindo of Winiko fame got arrested on tramped up charges.

President Peter Mutharika and his DPP are failing to arrest real criminals that have devastated the economy of Malawi.

Indians and DPP stalwarts are left free without being apprehended despite committing serious crimes of theft, fraud, corruption and state looting.

Likely thieves that are supposed to be arrested and denied bail are President Peter Mutharika himself for money laundering of MK145 million, fraud by being a conspirator of Zamir Karim in inflating prices with the intention of milking the taxes of citizens.

Opposition MPs deny to recognize Chaponda as Agriculture Minister in Parliament

Zamir Karim, Jakhura, Zuheda Satta, George Chaponda, 7 ministers, Mohammed Kossam, Gani family, Gani family and many Indians being used by politicians to steal the tax payers money.

DPP and President Peter Mutharika are reminded to know that government is just a container taking any liquid every five years.

This must sound a bell to aspiring politicians willing to enter into the government to know the biblical supreme commandment “do unto others what you would want them to do unto you”.

Everything that DPP is doing to others if it comes to an end on 21st May obviously President Peter Mutharika and his minions will not like to confine in police cells on tramped up charges.

Maenga appeal for a political environment that is conducive in multiparty dispensation.

Let MBC TV and Radio be a national broadcaster not a political party tool.

People’s Party in financial crisis; closes its offices in all districts

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The former ruling People’s Party (PP) is going through financial crisis such that it has closed some of its offices in the districts across the country.

The party’s many vehicles are currently down, three years after the party was booted out of government by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

PP Northern Region Provincial Chairperson, Patrick Ng’oma, revealed the pathetic situation to the party’s Secretary General, Ibrahim Matola, during his recent meeting with leaders at district, constituency and regional levels in Mzuzu.

Ng’oma said their offices in Mzuzu have outstanding bills to settle, hence asked the party’s secretariat to intervene.

But Matola said the party has no funds to pay for offices in the districts apart from the party’s President Joyce Banda’s commitment to pay for rentals at the party’s headquarters.

“We no longer have offices in many districts because we could not manage to sustain the operations at the offices. We commend our president Joyce Banda for supporting the headquarters offices.

However, we have asked the districts in which we have MPs to at least have an office so that the party activities can be run smoothly. MPs will be taking care of the rentals,” Matola said.

On vehicles, Matola said the party will ensure it allocates some available vehicles to the leaders at regional and district levels.

“I agree with you that it is not on for our governors to be footing when they are going to some areas to conduct campaign rallies.

Convincing people to re-join our party while you are sweating after walking long distances cannot win us the battle in 2019. We promise to look into it,” Matola said.

But Chancellor College based political analyst, Mustafa Hussein, said it is sad that ruling parties easily find resources to run party affairs but not opposition parties.

“That is how it always happens in Malawi for parties which are not in government. It is only the MCP which has resource mobilisation assets which help to support the party. Otherwise, Joyce Banda might not manage to support PP in everything,” Hussein said.
