MCP financier Moshin Mussa captures Chakwera’s Tonse admin departments for payback

Moshin Mussa in the middle captures Chakwera

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)- It has been established that business tycoon and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) financier Moshin Mussa is behind the cartel controlling and capturing President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance government department for payback business benefits.

Mussa is a powerful Malawian of Indian origin due to his high level connections made over the years.

Moshin is said to have captured the state at all levels including the executive, the judiciary and the enforcement agencies.

But who is Moshin Mussa?

Moshin Mussa is a Malawian business man of Indian origin.

Moshin Mussa is brother to Mohammed Mussa who married Rafik Gaffar Bakali’s daughter.

Rafik Gaffar Bakali is a senior member of MCP, the main partner in Tonse Alliance government.

He is also one of the main financiers of the party, as such he is well connected to the leadership of the party.

Mussa has taken advantage of his father in law’s connections to the country’s leadership and has grown big wings to the point that he controls ministries, departments and agencies as far as business is concerned.

Moshin Mussa uses two passports, one as Malawian citizen and another as a South African citizen which is in contravention of the immigration laws of Malawi.

The Malawian passport bears the name Moshin Mussa while the South African passport bears the name Moshin Nathavine.

Malawi laws doesn’t allow anyone to have two passports.

There is a need for a call up to investigate these issues of many Malawians of Asian origin doing this malpractice

According to our investigations corroborating with sister paper Nyasa Times found out that Mussa is another corruption kingpin.

Moshin bullies is reportedly blackmailing and extorting money from the association of Asian businessmen.

In one blackmail incident, Moshin blackmailed US$1.3 million from Wahb Jaggot who was a partner to OG Plastics and ended up selling his house to late Rashid Suleiman owner of Siku Transport in order to pay Moshin Mussa the blackmailer.

Our exclusive investigations have also found undeniable evidence of Moshin practices of externalization of forex to South Africa using his two bank accounts as conduits.

The bank accounts domiciled at Nation Bank and Standard bank have been proven to be used in extenalizing forex. All this happening under the watch of his trusted “boys” including deputy director of National intelligence Services (NIS) and Fiscal police.

Mussa has been publicly boasting and challenging that he is untouchable and can not be arrested nor reprimanded no matter what since he controls the State House, Judiciary (judges, magistrates and even court clerks are in his pockets), ministers, National Intelligence Service (NIS) Fiscal police, and top Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) officials which include deputy commissioner general Henry Ngutwa and Lusungu Gondwe.

Moshin has publicly mentioned some senior government officials and magistrates and police commissioners as his “boys” who can do nothing to arrest nor question him matter what, since all of them have benefited and are still benefiting from his corruption money.

He even claims that top lawyers are also beneficiaries of his corruption money.

This includes one thug lawyer who is still on bail answering attempted murder charge.

On MRA, Moshin has a tax evasion case where he ordered motorcycle and bicycle spare parts in the name of NGO.

Due to his undue influence on MRA top management, Fiscal police and Judiciary, this case was swept under the carpet.

In our investigations we have seen call logs to judges, magistrates, ministers, NIS, fiscal police officers and MRA top officer to prove Moshin’s bragging in a mafia way.

Moshin Mussa is bullying, threatening and intimidating members of the Malawi Asian Business Community to force his way to become its president/Chairman of Asian community in Malawi.

He is even threatening with deportation those seem to be standing in his way, owing to his close connection to the power that be.

It is also on record that May 28, 2021 that Moshin Mussa has been involved in kidnapping some members of the Asian community.

Moshin Mussa trades as Mussa Nurmahomed, Phazi Industries, Jaano Property.

Efforts to get his side of the story has been yielding nothing on his mobile phone for several attempts.

Source within MCP however told this publication that Moshin has been the main source of the party’s activities before Chakwera took reigns of power in 2020.

Sleepy HRDC out against Chakwera’s Tonse failed leadership

HRDC Trapence addressing media against Chakwera failed leadership

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The once mighty Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 came out of slumber to rebuke President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance for failing to meet Malawians expectation.

HRDC whose leaders are now serving different Tonse government portfolios was up in arms with Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to ouster former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) from power.

Addressing the news conference in the capital Lilongwe, HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence gave Chakwera’s Tonse government 21 days ultimatum to resolve fuel crisis, Affordable Inputs Program (AIP) mess and among others by November 29.

Trapence said enough is enough that Chakwera must now walk the talk inline with campaign promises made during 2020.

Trapence said is very sad to learn that Malawians are sleeping at filling stations for fuel when Chakwera keeps on global voyage on petty issues.

HRDC therefore dared Chakwera desist from petty trip while stopping cabinet ministers to make unnecessary travels both within and international.

He also asked Chakwera to direct law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute all culprits involved in AIP mess.

Trapence added that National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Hellen Buluma be fired arguing that she is behind the country’s fuel crisis.

He however warned that failure for Chakwera Tonse government to adhere to the calls, HRDC will mobilise Malawians to streets on December 7, 2022.

In 2019, HRDC was fearless that mobilised for regime change in favor of Chakwera and MCP argued that DPP failed Malawians.

Talking Blues: Lazarus Chakwera’s first year, the making of yet another inconsequential presidency

We will soon clock a year after the Fresh Presidential Election of 23 June 2020, which ushered in President Lazarus Chakwera’s presidency under the auguries of the Tonse Alliance.

On his inauguration, expectations of a better Malawi for all were sky-high, and if truth be told, no president has ever enjoyed the goodwill that Pres Chakwera had upon taking office.

A religious background, stinging criticism of his predecessors and a promise of “transformation”; all combined and misled Malawians into believing that finally, they had pressed the systems-reset button.

Partnering with Vice President Saulos Chilima was the icing on the cake. This created anticipation that the two top dog’s diverse skills, temperaments, and backgrounds would seamlessly blend into a hybrid leadership, amplifying their best qualities while suppressing their vices.

Where do things stand now?

The highlight of this past week was the indaba of sober and somber Tonse Alliance leaders in Mangochi. Talks, according to reports, focused on wrangles among the partners and the serious socio-economic challenges hounding Malawians despite promises to the contrary.

As per People’s Transformation (Petra) Party president Kamuzu Chibambo, the indaba’s designated media spokesperson, the meeting noted the many socio-economic challenges facing Malawians and the public’s concerns that the Tonse alliance is disintegrating.

He further reported that the nine political-party Alliance is working to address these issues, saying:

“There is so much at stake in the country with Covid-19 ravaging the country, scarcity of jobs, businesses collapsing, and life being exceedingly difficult for the majority of our people. These are things concerning us.

“The talk about 2025 [the election year], of course, they are things that cannot be totally ignored, but the focus now is on how to deal with socio-economic challenges the country is facing.”

Chibambo tried to assuage concerns that the Alliance is falling apart because partners have stopped governing and delivering but are instead busy building up for 2025.

According to Chibambo, a road map is being drawn to ensure that matters do not get out of hand.

He said: “This other day, the Vice-President [Chilima] addressed the same issue in Karonga. So, efforts are underway to address that issue thoroughly and adequately. Things will be sorted out.

“Certain things will arise, but it’s just a question of how we manage this process so that things don’t get out of control. There is a broader angle on it that is being investigated. For now, the important thing is for leaders to continue working together and then also ensure that concerns of supporters are addressed.”

Whatever the Alliance leaders discussed, agreed and/or agreed to disagree on, one thing is for sure: in its Global Economic Prospects Report for June 2021, the World Bank has revised Malawi’s growth rate downwards to 2.8 per cent, from the 3.8 per cent projection made previously.

In six words = the worst is yet to come.

This, of course, is not what the Tonse Alliance promised.

Now, before some slick spin doctor tries to scapegoat Covid19 for the worsening socio-economic challenges, we should remember that Election 2020 Campaign promises came after Covid19 had already been declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization.

Covid19 existed even as the promises were being made. Hence, no one should blame their failure to deliver on the Covid19 crisis.

The question then is: what has gone wrong?

I can list several things.

Presidential indecisiveness exhaustively discussed, written about and opined on by many; corruption happening as before if not with more impunity; incompetence and a business as usual approach at the highest level of the Civil Service as a result of hiring a tried, tired and failed maestro to man an office that needs an energetic innovator /change driver; presidential vanity and addiction to showmanship under the misconception that a president can govern Malawi in a hands-off manner and the well-documented mistrust and rivalry in the Alliance.

Among other things, intra-alliance mistrust and rivalry create an environment where alliance partners are setting each other up to fail. I have observed a worrisome adoption of Napoleon’s strategy of not interrupting your enemy when they are making a mistake.

Case authority? Some characters appointed as ambassadors lack the moral discipline to hold such high posts. Hence, while we are still smarting from the disgrace of Malawian diplomats in South Africa operating illegal shebeens, we could in future be disgraced again when an official residence is turned into a bordello.

What can we, therefore, say on this first anniversary of the historic 23 June 2020 FPE?

My first take is that perhaps because of the hunger for power and the pressure to out-promise Peter Mutharika, the Tonse Alliance as a group and President Chakwera as a person failed to appreciate the wisdom of under-promising but over-delivering.

However, this would not be an issue if Chakwera’s leadership and government were demonstrably taking Malawi from a business as usual to a business unusual mode.

Unfortunately, like his predecessors, Chakwera is wholly entangled in trappings of power. He looks on cloud nine when carrying out mundane non-value-adding ceremonial chores where microphones and cameramen are in abundance.

You know what?

• All his predecessors posed for thousands of photogenic stunts.

• All his predecessors delivered volumes and volumes of prepared speeches.

• All his predecessors enjoyed the intoxicating pomp and honour accorded to presidents during public functions.

These, however, did not translate into positive change in terms of improving the livelihood of ordinary Malawians.

You know why?

It is because the hard work of transforming a country happens in the president’s office where:

• he reads and reviews boring but essential data and reports and quickly makes decisions.

• decisions which are swiftly implemented by a change-minded energetic Secretary to President and Cabinet with deviations and variances followed up, investigated, and fixed and

• lessons learned factored in other sectors and processes.

And as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, the wheels of transformation irreversibly grind forward, and tangible improvements slowly but surely become visible.

But as things are, the alluring speeches, the powerful Television moments, and the picturesque stunts in gowns or camouflage captured on film have not changed a thing.

To conclude, without radical change(s), the year 23 June 2020 to date will go down in history as Chakwera’s first year in the making of yet another inconsequential presidency in Malawi.

What a waste!

Lyson Sibande Resignation letter to Minister Timothy Mtambo making rounds on Social Media

Timothy-Mtambo

To: Honorable Timothy Mtambo – Minister of Civic Education & National Unity
From: Lyson Sibande – Personal Assistant
Date: 22 July 2020

Dear Honorable,

RESIGNATION AS PERSONAL ASSISTANT

It is with great regret, that after some deep reflection on my past and soul searching, I have decided to resign from your office as Personal Assistant.  My resignation follows my desire to take full responsibility for my past mistakes on social media and start a new beginning.

There are several of my past Facebook posts where I spoke negatively about the current President, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the Vice President Right Honorable Dr. Saulos Chilima, and at some point I also wrote negatively about former Presidents; Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda and His Excellency Peter Mutharika.

Personal Assistance (PA) for Minister of Civic Education and Unity Timothy Mtambo, Lyson Sibande has resigned

I am very ashamed about the mistakes I made, and I plead with you to convey my apologies to the State President, the Vice President, and the former Presidents. I did not mean to harm them, but I got carried away with social media activism. How I wish I could push back the hands of time.

I know this has also brought shame to your new Ministry. You are a man of the people and the country expects you to be surrounded by people of unquestionable character and integrity. I, therefore, apologize to you as well.

I know you appointed me based on the work we did together in CFT in my capacity as the Deputy Communications & PR Strategist where sometimes we spent sleepless nights just to work in our respective capacities to ensure that the Tonse Alliance wins Elections.

I have no regrets about the small contribution I made to CFT as a partner of Tonse Alliance. Working with you has been the greatest honor and best experience of my life. If it pleases you, honorable, I would like to keep my position in CFT so that I can continue to work with you as you help President Chakwera to create a better Malawi Okomera Tonse.

Thanks, and may God continue to bless you.
Signed:
Lyson Sibande
