Ridzuan Mega Abdul Rahman and Azlin Arujunah, both 27, from Singapore have been arrested for locking their child in ‘tiny cat box’ and killed him with scalding water.
The diabolical couple allegedly pinched their five-year-old son with a pair of pliers, hit him with a broom and kept him confined to a pet cage for a month. The child who collapsed and died from scald injuries was splashed with 92.6C boiled four times a week before his death. The couple has also been accused of using a heated spoon to burn the boy’s palm as a punishment for stealing milk powder meant for his siblings.
According to Professor Loh Tsee Foong from the hospital where the boy was treated, the child died very quickly, and the nurses who were treating him had to go for counseling as they were distressed.
As reported by Mirror News, Foong said: “The hospital had to counsel and give some support to the nurses because they became very emotional, they couldn’t believe that this could happen to a child.”
He added that the boy suffered second to third degree burns, acute kidney injuries, dehydration, a broken nose, cuts on his face and isolated speech delay before he died.
In police statements the couple admitted to the acts of abuse but declined to give evidence during their trial.
Prosecution team described the incident as “horrific and tragic murder” and meanwhile, the couple awaits for the sentence that is believed to be served on them after gathering all the evidence on the case.
