PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-Self-proclaimed Prophet and leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, have been granted bail

The two we’re arrested in October on charges of theft, money Laundering and Fraud to the tune of R102 million (MK5 billion).

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said on Monday that his department had uncovered evidence that the Bushiris entered the country using visitors’ visas, and opted to conduct business, which is not allowed.

The couple having spent 14 nights in custody has been ordered to pay a total of about k20 million, each paying half of the amount.

The prophet has been barred from making any threatening statement or referring to the case during his church sermons, should he not obey the order the bail will be revoked.

Two previous notices sent to the Bushiris explaining details in their permanent residence applications were also withdrawn.

In addition to the charges racked against the pastor and his wife, which include fraud, money laundering and theft, they are also accused of contravening certain provisions of the Immigration Act.

Home Affairs officials alleged to have served notices to embattled Enlightened Christian Gathering church leader, Prophet Bushiri and his wife Mary have been suspended, eNCA reported on Sunday, October 25, 2020..

Bushiri and his wife are Malawian nationals.

In addition to the charges racked against the pastor and his wife, which include fraud, money laundering and theft, they are also accused of contravening certain provisions of the Immigration Act.

The Bushiris were served three notices by a senior home affairs official, in February and March last year. The third notice was declared “irrational, unlawful and invalid”.

According to a legal document, Bushiri’s application for permanent residence status was captured and granted by the officials, “in terms of an incorrect section of the Act which occurred as a result of certain commissions or commissions on the applicant and his wife’s part.”

When the Bushiri’s were served their third notice, it let the couple know that their residency status needed to be withdrawn. They were given 30 days to make arguments to the department why their permanent residency status should be allowed.

Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi told eNCA that the officials were suspended for unrelated matters, but that their role within the Bushiri saga is now being probed.

The church leader and his wife will apply for bail on Monday. Their bail application is set for October 30, 2020.

Bushiri and his wife Marry have been denied bail for three times since their arrests on October 20, 2020.

Their money laundering and fraud charges are allegedly worth R102 million.

In Bushiti’s affidavit, he said he intended to plead not guilty, and should be granted bail, as he said he had no reason to flee the country.

Prophet Bushiri,wife Marry to spend weekend in cooler as bail hearing set for Monday on R102 million fraud, money laundering charges

PRETORIA-(MaraviPost)-The Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Church leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri along his wife Marry will spend the weekend in in police custody till Monday, October 26, 2020 when their bail applications will be heard following the arrest on Tuesday, October 20.

Prophet Bushiri and his wife Marry on Friday, October 23 appeared before Pretoria Magistrates Court for bail application and hearing.

In a brief statement ECG Director of Communication Ephraim Nyondo said without more details, “The Magistrate has this Friday postponed to Monday the bail hearing of case involving Major 1 and Prophetess Mary Bushiri”.

This is the second time this week the couple denied bail since their arrests on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Nyondo expressed sadness over South Africa’s state lawyers of not willing to grant Bushiri bail.

“The State formally requested to postpone the case while also resisting bail. Our lawyers vehemently opposed the State’s stance to the effect that they demonstrated their readiness by submitting bail applications affidavit.

“The Magistrate will rule on the postponement on Friday and possibly the bail hearing.We are unhappy about what we feel is a weaponisation of the criminal justice system,” says Nyondo.

South Africa fiscal police Hawks re-arrested Malawian Prophet, Shepherd Bushiri, and his wife Prophetess Mary Bushiri allegedly for fraud and money laundering about MK5 billion (R102 million).

The two were arrested on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 by the Hawks, South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) which targets organized crime, economic crime, corruption, and other serious crimes.

Initially Bushiri’s wife was arrested at her home.

However, a news report by eNCA alleges that Bushiri was “apprehended after attempting to evade arrest”.

The report says Major 1 as the Malawian born prophet is fondly called “subsequently handed himself in at Silverton police station in Pretoria”.
