Sports media has grown into one of the main forms of entertainment for the masses all over the globe. And as such, it focuses especially on sports with the largest masses of viewers, like men’s association football, tennis and various motorsports.

There are, in turn, many other sports that deserve recognition, widely covered among the many Betway online betting markets. A few examples where individual athletes deserve more time in the spotlight and much more recognition is women’s football, handball, and water polo.

Today, we’ll cover several competitive sports that, while interesting and healthy activities, are not given enough attention by the media and the fans.

Women’s Football

Despite the fact that there is a growing interest in the sport on the level of clubs as well as international, the working conditions simply do not reflect the change in trend. In addition to other sectors of the economy, gender inequality has confirmed that women’s football suffers from low pay, lack of support, and precarious conditions.

The governing body of FIFA has described soccer as a sport that cuts across every human boundary, from society, religion, socioeconomics, race, and ethnicity. Furthermore, over 30 million women play worldwide, with up to 5 million registered for a specific national association. Research has shown that there are still significant barriers to overcome to make the sport a secure career path for women.

Water Polo

What can easily be observed as soccer meets handball meets swimming, water polo is a competitive sport played in a deep pool of water between two teams. While incredibly fun, there are many reasons the sport is not as popular compared to others in the Olympics.

For one, the rules change frequently and are often gravely misunderstood, not only by audience members but even the referees, who fail to consistently officiate due to the fact that non-players can only observe the action taking place above the waterline.

Many times, legal behavior is being displayed in a visible view, while illegal behavior that violates the rules is taking place underwater. Calls are often uneven and capricious, despite the fact that the best referees are relatively consistent.

Handball

This sport is considered unpopular in many nations simply due to its lack of press coverage. Additionally, in comparison to others, handball is still a relatively new sport, with its first set of rules composed in 1906. Other variables, like corruption and sponsorships, play further parts in the lack of popularity.

Perhaps the worst part about the sport is the fact that it is simply not perceived well. It is not considered a primary sport for the majority of nations, even for Germany, its place of origin. However, this does not mean that game isn’t popular. Many kinds of sports are subject to political and historical influences.
