Massive explosion claims dozens of lives in Lebanon’s capital Beirut

BEIRUT-(MaraviPost)-Nearly 78 people have lost their lives with about 4,000 others wounded following huge explosion that ripped through Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Tuesday.

Officials confirmed of the sad news on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2020 linking the tragedy to some 2,700 tonnes of confiscated ammonium nitrate that were being stored in a warehouse at the port for six years.

Reports indicated that the blast centered on the city’s port area sent shockwaves across the city causing widespread damage to buildings leaving cars floating in beams of warehouses and containers scattered across roadways.

Al Jazeera report revealed that the Health Minister in the country Hamad Hassan has called for international aid following the overwhelming number of casualties that have flooded most hospital with various degrees of injuries.

Commenting on the matter, United States president Donald Trump has expressed his heartfelt sympathy and has assurance the country that they will provide the much needed support considering the good relationship with the people of Lebanon.

Prime Minsiter Hassan Diab said investigations will be thoroughly launched into the incident.

The blast comes at a terrible time when Lebanon is facing financial hiccups and the coronavirus pandemic.
