The former two-division UFC World Champion has revealed his plan to retire from the sport on social media Sunday, June 7th.
The Irish fighter with 22-4 record made similar announcement in 2016 a month after losing to Nate Diaz and later in 2019 after his fourth round loss against Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov before making his way back to the octagon.
According to Daily Mail, the mixed martial arts fighter who is popularly known as “The Notorious,” has only lost twice one to Nurmagomedov and one against Diaz and he was expected to fight again later this year with UFC legend Anderson Silva, Jorge Masvidal and a rematch with arch-rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The former featherweight and lightweight champion has an estimated net worth of about $110m and he previously vowed to fight three times in 2020 with his second fight scheduled for July 11 in Las Vegas which was terminated due to coronavirus pandemic.
Commenting on the matter, UFC president Dana White said people have been acting strangely lately because of the pandemic but McGregor will be permitted to retire if he wishes to do so.
