Ugandan Police officer Harshem Mwenyi

KAMPALA-(MaraviPost)-A police officer identified as Constable Harshem Mwenyi, was discovered alive by mortuary attendants after being lynched and presumed dead.

Police Political Commissar Asan Kasingye confirmed the news on Saturday in a tweet describing the incident as a miracle.

Mwenyi, a traffic Policeman Constable attached to Tororo district, was attached by a mob when he visited his girlfriend.

It is alleged that the two had a misunderstanding over messages on her phone before he walked away with the phone. The girlfriend later caught up with him at Makerere-Nakulabye junction and raised an alarm accusing him of theft which led to the mob lynching the officer, New Vision reported.

Police discovered an iron bar believed to be among weapons used to hit him when they rushed to the scene of the incident.

The officer was admitted at Mulago hospital in critical condition before he was pronounced dead.

He was later discovered alive by the mortuary attendants on Saturday morning in critical condition before he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the territorial police at Old Kampala said an investigation has been launched and suspects will face attempted murder charges. Police added that they recovered the CCTV footage in the area to help identify whoever participated in this act.

However, question still remains if the officer was rushed to the mortuary before finding out whether he was actually dead or he was a revenant.
