Blantyre, Malawi, April 22 (MaraviPost) _ The Gloag Foundation has announced that it will build a maternity waiting home, an operating theatre and extend the labour ward at Nathenje Health Centre in Lilongwe.
“We have identified this location as an area of need due to the challenging referral system that exists between Nathenje and Bwaila Maternity and also the number of fistula patients coming from that area to our Fistula Care Centre,” said Lois Byle Director of Operations and Communications for the Gloag Foundation after President Joyce Banda met Ann Gloag, her long time friend and philanthropist, in Lilongwe Tuesday.
“My government greatly appreciates the support that it receives from the Ann Gloag Foundation to restore the dignity of Malawian women,” said the president.
Gloag is a Scottish philanthropist and entrepreneur who established the international bus company, Stagecoach Group, in 1980. Stagecoach also established its business in Malawi.
In 2012 the Gloag Foundation renovated and donated a state of the art Fistula Centre at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe.-maravipost
