BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Tonse alliance led government on October 5, 2020 briefed Malawians on the achievements of their administration in the first 100 days in office.
In his speech the vice President Saulos Chilima starts by paying homage to people who lost their lives during the period of campaign to send out what he calls ‘a gang of thugs’.
Chilima who is also Minister of Economic Planning and Development and Public Sector Reformes, said tonse administration has put public sector reforms as one of the items on top of its agenda saying reforms are crucial in ensuring improved service delivery.
He said public sector reforms seeks to improve the public adminstration of the state, “It’s role and functions as well as the effectiveness and efficiency of public service institution in a systematic manner”.
The Veep further said public reforms programme is an ongoing initiative saying he sees some progress in some organisations he has engaged.
Chilima said the public reformes which he is championing are an answer to the cries of Change that people have so long hope for but never realized.
The country’s vice president reveals that at the moment some ministries, department and agencies have already embarked on implementation of the agreed parameters of reforms.
To achieve this he said they will deploy a result based model which will derive from activities to the benefits of the citizens.
He therefore point out that among other challenges for the reforms is highly politicised public services.
“Even as we admit that these challenges exist, we must never tire to reform the public sector and deliver the best of our effort”, said Chilima.
The vice president Chilima said reforms are like breathing.
“We have to keep breathing or else we will die”.
Tonse alliance took over the reigns from former President Peter Mutharika on June 23, 2020 after winning fresh presidential election.
