Wendy Harawa Foundation aids MK3 million towards Malawi queens camping

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Wendy Harawa Foundation has boosted the morale of the Malawi National Netball team players currently camping in Blantyre a head of the Vitality Netball Championship slated for United Kingdom next month.

The foundation has on Monday, 20th January 2025 made a significant donation of K3 million to the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) to carter for the players camping allowances.

Receiving the donation at Bingu National Stadium, Netball court the body’s general secretary Yamikani Khungwa showed gratitude towards the gesture

“We are very happy with the donation from Wendy Harawa Foundation, we have a shortfall on our budget especially for local camping hence we appealed to Malawians and companies to join forces for it to be done and today we have seen the foundation coming up with the K3 million donation”,

“Our budget for the local camp is at K30 million and we are also happy to say that for the accommodation and food government through Malawi Council of Sports has provided and what is remaining is the allowances for the players. There are so many things which we are lacking including minerals, water, fruits, energy bars and juices. The camp is going on very well and we are optimistic that we will do better next month in the UK”, Khungwa explained.

In his remarks after making the donation, Managing Director of Wendy Harawa Foundation Treyvis Hara said the donation has come up following the call made by Netball Association of Malawi (NAM).

“We were contacted by NAM and when we made the presentation to our CEO,Wendy, she was moved and gave us a go ahead as the initiative is inline with the goal of the organization which is to empower women. Malawi Queens has been making the country proud with their performance hence they need such gestures, for us this is just the beginning because we know that there is more which is coming we are supposed to take part. Let me also urge other stakeholder’s, corporate world to take part in supporting our national team because it belongs to us not just players and officials”,Hara remarked.

Wendy Harawa Foundation was established in 2018 with an aim of reaching out to girl child, Women and underprivileged.

The local camping has now entered the final week as the team is expected to leave the country month end of January for United Kingdom to take part in this year’s Vitality Netball Championship which has four teams including the host England, South Africa, Uganda and Malawi.

Currently 15 players are remaining in camp and coaches are expected to drop four more before leaving the country as required number of players to travel is 12. Joyce Mvula is already in the United Kingdom.
