Zimbabwe High Court dismisses paternity claim against late President Mugabe’s Estate

1 Min Read

HARARE-(MaraviPost-The Zimbabwe High Court has dismissed a legal case brought forward by Tonderai Gabriel Mugabe, who claimed to be the biological son of the late President Robert Mugabe.

Tonderai sought to reopen the estate of the former leader, which has been closed since December 2020, in an effort to claim a share of the inheritance.

Justice Fatima Maxwell ruled against the petition, stating that the case lacked merit.

The judge highlighted significant inconsistencies in the claim and expressed concern over the unexplained delay of nearly four years before the claim was filed.

Tonderai had submitted several pieces of evidence including a birth certificate bearing Robert Mugabe’s name, affidavits, and a DNA report.

Despite these, the court found the evidence insufficient to conclusively establish paternity.

This ruling effectively closes the chapter on Tonderai’s legal pursuit for recognition and inheritance from the late Zimbabwean president’s estate.

The decision reaffirms the court’s position on stringent proof requirements in matters of paternity and estate claims.
