Malawi Parliament bars unvaccinated staff, lawmakers, public

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Following the announcement of the speaker on the strength of COVID-19 measures before the adjournment of the August house to sine die, is now mandatory to show vaccines certificates when accessing Parliament premises.

In a statement, the Clerk of Parliament, Fiona Kalemba said all the parliamentary staffs that are fully vaccinated their names are on the parliamentary main gate and the are the ones that are allowed to access the premise.

She said media personnel and other visitors are being asked to provide the certificates at the main gate to access the premise.

Kalemba said members of staff that did not submit the vaccination details will be assumed that they are on absence of leave and they will be barred from allowance.

She added that the measures has been strengthen as Parliament is one of the house that has lost many people due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The strengthen of COVID-19 measures follows the ministry of health announcement of mandatory vaccination which a lot of stakeholders including Malawi Human Rights Rehabilitation (MHRR) has condemned.
