Population service International (PSI) has started extending the range of service from just traditional ways of communication to modern roots especially in rural areas, through the Airtel program called “321” as part of its effort of making its intended goal of a health Malawi and providing service relevant to modern people’s needs.
Psi Malawi HIV/Aids Program Manager Brenda Kamanga in an interview in Lilongwe (Chinsapo and area 25) called on people especially airtel subscribers to use 321 services. Airtel Malawi customers can dial four times within the month without being charged or using SMS at free of charge throughout the year.
The services have two options the Agriculture and Health sections to give an opportunity to Malawians to get information. “All airtel customers have an opportunity to call 321 or use SMS to find important information concerning health and agriculture on mobile phone for goodness of their livelihood.
For example, before going to hospital you can have a pre- research on issue of health like HIV/Aids, family planning methods its importance and disadvantages”.
She said Psi Malawi is in campaign of Care female condoms to prevent the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDi) in Malawi hence working in partnership with Airtel Malawi Service to spread information quickly.
Currently two hundred thousand providers have access to 321service which is a promising figure in as far as health issues are concern. Kamanga said the move is also to ensure that the company contribute to the healthy wellbeing of the contry.
The campaign was organized with funding from the Department of International Development (DFID).
