BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Uladi Musa aka Chenji Golo, is a name that resonates within the political sphere of Malawi. Once an influential figure within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), he has now defected to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

This move comes as no surprise, as Musa has become notorious for his ability to switch political affiliations whenever it suits his interests. However, his checkered past may hinder his ambitions to contest for a parliamentary seat.

The Rise and Fall of Uladi Musa

Uladi Musa’s political journey has been one characterized by ups and downs, with scandal and controversy never too far behind.

A former Minister in the DPP-led government, Musa was initially seen as a rising star, with his charisma and political acumen winning over both supporters and fellow party members. However, as time went on, his true nature as a “recycled politician” began to emerge.

The Pardon and Its Consequences

Musa’s reputation took a significant hit when he was convicted and sentenced. However, his political connections seemed to have spared him from serving out his full sentence, as he was eventually granted a presidential pardon.

Ineligibility for a Parliamentary Seat

Under the laws of Malawi, Musa is currently ineligible to contest for a parliamentary seat due to his criminal conviction.

The legislation stipulates that individuals convicted of certain offenses must wait for a designated period, in this case, 7 years, before being allowed to participate in the electoral process.

This means that if Musa wishes to pursue his political aspirations, he must bide his time and wait for the clock to tick away.

A Diminished Political Force

While Musa may have once been a force to be reckoned with, his political influence has significantly waned over the years. The repeated switches in his political affiliation have eroded public trust in his leadership abilities.

Nowadays, his name is often met with apathy rather than enthusiasm, with many questioning his true intentions and commitment to the welfare of the people.

A Democratic Right of Association

Despite his tarnished reputation, Auladi Mussa has exercised his democratic right of association by joining the MCP, with open arms and a warm welcome extended by President Lazarus Chakwera himself.

This move has inevitably sparked debate and discussion among the political terrain with some dubbing it a mere opportunistic maneuver, while others argue that individuals deserve a chance at redemption and second chances.

The Chameleon’s Shifting Loyalties

Musa’s ability to switch political allegiances at will earned him the nickname “Change Goal.” and he enjoys the name as it defines him truly.

His first major shift occurred following the death of former President Bingu wa Mutharika, prompting Mussa to abandon the DPP and seek refuge in the People’s Party of Joyce Banda.

However, his time with the People’s Party was short-lived, as he was swiftly expelled, showcasing his constantly evolving political landscape.

Conclusion

Uladi Musa’s political journey has been one fraught with controversy, scandal, and questionable decisions. While he may have once held sway within the ranks of the DPP, his reputation as a “recycled politician” and his ongoing legal troubles have severely hampered his standing.

As he looks to rebuild his political career within the MCP, only time will tell if Musa can truly shed his chameleon-like past and regain the trust of the people.
