Malawi Police puts MK1.5m bounty for capture of Isaa Njauju’s assailants

(MaraviPost): The Malawi Police Service has put forward MK1.5 million as a reward to anyone who is going to provide information for the arrest of killers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)’s Director of Finance and Administration, Isaa Njauju.

 

This development comes amid request from scores of CSOs, faith groups and activists by asking the Malawi Police to come clear with full information regarding to the death of Njauju

 

 

In a press statement, the Malawi Police issued on July 12, 2015 available to The Maravi Post says MK1.5 million has been put forward as a reward for the arrest of the late Njauju’s assailants the money which has come from police’s coffers under the criminal investigations reward fund.

 

The fund was established in 2014 aimed at encouraging the public to provide law enforcers with crucial information which will lead to a successful arrest of criminals for prosecution.

 

Rhoda Manjolo, Malawi Police Spokesperson said the reward meant to facilitate public engagement in searching the killers since the assailants were part of the Malawi society.

 

“We want to motivate the public to provide tangible information to us which will lead to a successful arrest and conviction of the murderous. These killers live with all of us. The police can’t be everywhere hence we are banking on the public’s support.

 

“We have information but we also need a lot of information from the public. Our role is to provide security to everyone living in this country which is complemented by the public’s patriotism by providing tangible information. The public should give us traces of killers for prosecution”, urges Manjolo.

 

 

Njauju was found dead by sand miners with two bullets wounds, one on his neck and the other on the chest after missing for two days upon knocking off from work as his vehicle , a Toyota Hilux Double cabin was found burnt along Ntandire road in the capital Lilongwe a week ago.

 

Meanwhile, ACB officers and those working in the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) have expressed fear and demanded  security in their work when investigating fraud and corruption cases which government through Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Samuel Tembenu has indicated that a an overhaul review of ACB officers’ security was to be done soon.
