Ntchisi (MaraviPost): Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Centre, Alfred Gangata, has criticized President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration for what he described as a string of unfulfilled promises.

Speaking during a political rally in Ntchisi, Gangata pointed to several areas where he claims the Malawi Congress Party (MCP)-led government has failed the people, citing the rising cost of school fees as one of the indicators of poor leadership.

He promised that once the DPP returns to power, it will prioritize the welfare of traditional leaders by increasing their honoraria. Gangata also criticized the MCP for allegedly misleading chiefs with token payments, claiming that the current K50,000 allowance given to chiefs only equates to K10,000 in real value considering the cost of living.

“Don’t be swayed by small handouts. Real development and respect for traditional leaders will return with the DPP,” Gangata said.

Meanwhile, DPP Director of Youth, Norman Chisale, urged supporters to remain peaceful and disciplined. He warned against emulating what he described as violent tactics sometimes associated with MCP supporters, such as the use of pangas to instill fear.

“Our party stands for peace, development, and order. Let us focus on winning the people through policies, not intimidation,” said Chisale.

The DPP continues to ramp up its campaign across the country, targeting areas where it previously enjoyed strong support.
