Residents of Blantyre City are urging the city authorities to take action regarding stationary vehicles parked on some of the city’s streets. The residents claim that these vehicles are not only an eyesore but also pose a potential danger to motorists.

According to Evance Matimati, a resident from Ndirande Township, the stationary vehicles pose a risk and cause traffic jams. A female driver, who wished to remain anonymous, echoed Matimati’s concerns, saying that it becomes difficult to maneuver around places where the stationary vehicles are parked on the roads.

The residents’ concerns have not fallen on deaf ears, as Blantyre City Council Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Chinsewu, has acknowledged the problem. “We are doing something, firstly, we are engaging the owners of stationed vehicles to remove them,” Chinsewu said. “If they’re not complying, action will be taken at a cost to the owners.”

The city council’s response has brought hope to the residents, who are eager to see the streets of Blantyre cleared of stationary vehicles. The issue highlights the need for effective urban planning and management to ensure that the city’s streets are safe and accessible to all users.

As the city council takes steps to address the problem, residents are optimistic that the streets of Blantyre will become safer and more navigable. The city authorities’ efforts to engage with vehicle owners and take action against non-compliant owners will be crucial in resolving the issue.
