BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The producers of the hit Malawian movie “Welcome to Maula Prison” are sounding the alarm on unauthorized merchandise featuring quotes from the film.
Publicist Desiree Namachotsa expressed concern over T-shirts with popular lines from the movie, like “Ndiauza akazanga adzikupemphererani,” being sold without the crew’s consent.
This, she says, infringes on copyright laws protected by the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA).
Namachotsa emphasized that the movie team hasn’t released or authorized any official merchandise yet.
The upcoming Meet and Greet event this Friday at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe will be the place to get authentic merchandise.
“Welcome to Maula Prison,” produced by 4Kaya Films, has been a massive hit, praised for its authentic portrayal of life in Maula Prison and its impact on shifting perceptions of the justice system in Malawi.
