LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Vice President, Dr. Michael Usi, has delivered a scathing criticism of the Malawi Congress Party-led administration, saying he regrets being part of the current government.
Speaking as both the Vice President and leader of the Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu party, Dr. Usi accused the government of entrenching corruption and promoting selfishness among top officials.
He said the culture of greed among some senior public officers has derailed the nation’s progress and undermined the trust of citizens.
Dr. Usi’s remarks mark one of his most direct and public rebukes of the administration he serves under.
He stressed that the government’s current trajectory is incompatible with the principles of accountability and service to the people.
The Vice President lamented that, despite his role in the highest office of the land, he has been unable to influence meaningful change in curbing corruption.
His statement has sparked debate across the political spectrum, with some viewing it as a bold act of honesty and others questioning the implications for the stability of the ruling coalition.
Dr. Usi urged Malawians to reflect carefully on the kind of leadership they choose, particularly ahead of the next elections.
He also called for unity among political leaders in addressing the systemic issues of corruption, rather than engaging in personal attacks or partisan rivalry.
His remarks add to growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of graft and governance reforms.
The Vice President’s statement signals deepening divisions within the ruling alliance and raises questions about the future of his political partnership with the MCP.
