If Jane Ansah becomes Malawi’s President, is that a problem?

2 Min Read

Now that the two notable opposition parties, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) have clinched an electoral alliance, scepticism has clobbered the future of Malawi’s political landscape.

What has stirred the political scene is that the potential second vice president of the DPP -AFORD alliance, Enoch Chihana, addressed Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM)’s running mate, Jane Ansah, as the potential president of the Republic of Malawi?

Furthermore, Atupele Muluzi has alluded to the fact if voters put APM into power, it will be Jane Ansah calling the shots.

In this opinion article, I have had a privilege of contacting members of social media platforms who readily put their views afore.

For starters, one self-proclaimed constitutional lawyer who is based in South Africa, Oldman Malinga said, “Jane Ansah’s presidency if elected legally would be better than Chakwera’s”

Surprisingly, Oldman Malinga is an accomplice to Timothy Mtambo’s activism that held Malawi at ransom during the run up to 2020 presidential elections.

Furthermore, Burnett Munthali , a well-known political analyst and writer, also gave his input that much as Jane Ansah has held many public positions, he is also sceptical that “Many Malawians still associate her name with the political unrest and mistrust that followed that election. For those citizens, her presidency might rekindle old tensions and deepen divisions, especially if the wounds from that period remain unhealed.”

Moreover, Burnett Munthali’s sentiments were echoed by Deus Chanasi who vehemently opposes the coming back of APM including the possibility of Jane Ansah being the potential President of Malawi by virtue of being the running mate to Malawi.

Chanasi said, “Mpakana Jane Ansah, Malawi President? Talodzedwa eti?”. Unfortunately, in politics, anything is possible.

During the campaign period, it is advisable that online publications and publishers should desist from taking sides.

Additionally, on the media platforms, Thomas Chikwi also commented on Jane Ansah’s ascendancy to presidency that “There’s no problem at all. Mai wanzeru komanso wa sukulu ngati ameneyu”

As if the aforementioned instances are not enough, Danny Msasata had kind words about Jane Ansah saying , “Those kind of people make good leaders”

However, Abdullah Nazi Coanzy compromised in his analysis about Jane Ansah’s candidature of being the potential vice president of Malawi by audaciously remaking “No totally awesome and she is aright one”.

In conclusion, all what Malawi requires is a sincere, devoted, and unselfish leader who is driven to improve our nation by breaking free from the grip of starvation, destitution, deceit, egocentrism, favouritism, regional bias, tribal division, economic mismanagement, and bribery.
