BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-President Professor Peter Mutharika has departed Malawi for South Africa on a private visit.
His trip was delayed by two hours due to poor weather conditions in South Africa, which made it difficult for aircraft to land safely.
Presidential Press Secretary Cathy Maulidi confirmed that the Head of State has now left the country through Bakili Muluzi International Airport.
She explained that aviation authorities had initially withheld clearance because storms in South Africa were affecting landing procedures.
Maulidi assured the public that once weather conditions improved, the President was allowed to proceed with his planned journey.
Before his departure, President Mutharika inspected a guard of honour mounted by members of the Malawi Defence Force.
His engagement with the military personnel marked the final protocol event before he boarded his flight.
Government officials accompanying him said the President’s trip is strictly private and does not involve official meetings or state duties.
The departure drew attention from airport staff and travellers who gathered to witness the Head of State leave the country.
Authorities have not yet disclosed when President Mutharika is expected to return from his private engagement in South Africa.
