Speaking to a group of women, First lady Gertrude Mutharika said, today is an important day when we gather to witness the close relationship between beauty and cleanliness.
Just turn to your neighbor, look at the person sitting next to you.
Surely, you are able to see the beauty in your friend, and she too is able to admire the beauty that is in you.
And let me say this from deep down my heart that all you women, you look elegant today, you look smart, and you are breath-taking

you see, beauty starts with a woman. Women are the source of warmth as we shine and brighten all the corners of our society. Just think to yourself, pause for a while, and imagine what kind of world it would be, without women.
Your answers are correct. It would be a world without beauty.

This is why the theme for this luncheon is BEAUTIFULWOMEN, BEAUTIFUL MALAWI. It is a women’s-only event because from today, we would like to celebrate women.
We would like to open more space for women participation in our noble task to beautify Malawi. Women have already shown the way in the work of Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM).
I would like to thank many of you present at this function, and of course hundreds other women out there who are volunteering their time and resources to carry out the work of BEAM.
Beautiful women have taken a frontline role in cleaning up our country. Women are carrying out sanitation activities in their homes, schools, hospitals, market places, and in the public places.
Of course, we should also applaud the support and commitment shown by some men who are equally working hard in beautifying Malawi. BEAM is your organization. BEAM belongs to all of us.
BEAM stands for beauty, and we believe that beautiful people lead to a beautiful country.
Beautiful women means beautiful Malawi.
At BEAM, we have embraced a holistic definition and a more robust understanding of the concept of beauty.
BEAM understands beauty as a notion that goes beyond one’s appearance.
Beauty is more than one’s outward looks. Beauty is also the state of heart, the state of mind, and the passion that one has to take care of our society. A beautiful woman is one who shows love for others, and is willing to help their neighbor.
A beautiful woman is also one who is not self-centered, ‘osadzikonda,’ a woman who volunteers and sacrifices her time for the benefit of the larger society.
BEAM sees a direct relationship between beauty and education. An educated nation is a beautiful nation. This is why BEAM has a component of promoting education, especially for girls in our programming.
We encourage girls to be educated because education beautifies the mind, and education is the only sure way for ensuring a beautiful Malawi.
Let me therefore encourage all of us ladies gathered here today, and many other women who are out there to hold each other’s hands. Time has come when we must walk together to make Malawi a clean country, to make Malawi an attractive country,
And to make this country a society with increased standards of sanitation.

Time has come for us women to be united, let us love each other, let us do away with the pull-down syndrome, let us support each other.
Beauty and backbiting do not go together. Beauty and jealousy do not go hand in hand. Beauty and envy are not cousins.
Let us remove any traits that distort our image as beautiful women. Beauty must be associated with love.
