Lilongwe: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will apparently investigate first and second deputy speakers of the National Assembly for allegedly defrauding the government and tax payers.
The ACB investigation comes after Media reported at the weekend that Esther Mcheka-Chilenje and Clement Chiwaya reside in their own houses but receive allowances equivalent for rented houses.
ACB deputy director Reyneck Matemba confirmed to Zodiak that an investigation has been launched, but asked for more time before he could provide further details.
First deputy speaker Chilenje is quoted in the paper as saying she is renting her house, while Chiwaya says he is in the process of buying the house.
Deputy speakers residing in their own houses receive K250 thousand a month in housing allowance while those staying in rented houses are entitled to K550 thousand.
