BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Pool Association (MAPA) has called on candidates contesting in the forthcoming Southern Region Pool League (SRPL) and Central Region Pool League (CRPL) elections to prioritize the development of pool rather than focusing on personal ambitions during their campaigns.

The association says the elections present an important opportunity for leaders who are passionate about improving the sport to step forward and help strengthen the structures of pool leagues in their respective regions.

Originally scheduled for March 14, 2026, the elections were later postponed to April 11, 2026 after several regional affiliates requested more time to settle internal issues before going to the polls.

MAPA General Secretary Herbert Thumpwa, said leadership positions in regional leagues come with the responsibility of energizing pool activities and ensuring the sport grows at grassroots level.

Thumpwa emphasized that candidates should campaign on clear development agendas that can inspire affiliates and players to actively participate in the growth of the sport across the country.

He further revealed that although the elections have been delayed, the nomination process has officially been closed because the list of candidates has already been published in both regions.

However, candidates have been given until April 08, 2026 to continue presenting their manifestos and plans to affiliates before voting takes place three days later.

In the Central Region Pool League (CRPL), affiliates will vote for two contested positions Chairperson and Lady Representative, each attracting two candidates.

For the Chairperson position, Emmanuel Mpoya will compete against Gideon Kachale, while Margret Kaiyatsa and George Gunde will battle it out for the Lady Representative seat.

Several other CRPL positions will be filled unopposed, with Adrian Chisoni Mkutumula contesting for Vice Chairperson, Prince Manondo for General Secretary and Maloto Ndevuzamwaye for Vice General Secretary.

Additionally, Agrey Nyirenda is set to take the role of Treasurer General, while Yamikani Bakali is running unopposed for the position of Technical Director.

Meanwhile, in the Southern Region Pool League (SRPL) elections, the only contested position will be Vice Chairperson, where Mahara Chitulu Nyirenda is set to face David Richard Matiya, while other candidates including Rodrick Mindress, Blessings Mathiya, Mthetho Macmillan Hara and Martin Vincent Phiri are running unopposed for their respective posts.
